Do you find the term "cúnt" (often spelled in different ways for obvious reasons) offensive?

Personally I find it hugely offensive, yet it seems to be quite acceptable on boards.ie nowadays.

Do you mean ***** or ****?

***** is offensive to me, **** is not as it's not in my vocabulary so makes no odds to me.

I don't find it offensive, and I honestly don't care if people find it offensive. It's a word I use a lot, and to take offense is just stupid.

Is somehow more piercing than prìck, for instance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭Riddle101

I use it in a derogatory sense, so yes I do believe it is offensive. Towards the person I'm calling a c*nt.

If you find it offensive, then your a ****

Isn't being offensive kind of the point of the word?

    I'm cured now though

Although I clicked YES in your poll I don't find it too offensive, more so crude and I try not use it myself.

Although funny enough I don't mind using the word 'prick' to describe a prick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 FishFacePhil

No. Not in the slightest. Americans and Canadians find it offensive, and I think thats because it has a different meaning in those countries. There it refers to a female in a negative way. Here it just means guy or person. Aussies use the word the same way we do.

depends on who is calling you a ****. If a friend call me a ****ing **** wanker ****** prick **** **** i wouldn't be offended. That is how most of them show affection.

If a random stranger or someone said the same though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

I personally find it quite offensive, and this is dispite my thoughts for it changing due to its increased use of it lately.

I used to find it extremely offensive, and would never use it, and would even request of close friends and family not to use it. But I suppose with alot of offensive words and pharses they slowly become accepted overtime. Saying all of that, would only use it to describe the absolute dregs of society, and would never use it on someone I know, or to someones face, either as a joke or to offend.

It used to be the real taboo of swear words/insults, for when you were really irate about someone or something. Now it's as common as fcuk is, no pun intended. It's very vulgar and coarse, as my dead granny would have put it.

Used to be indifferent to it, but the Trinity Killer in Dexter changed my perception of the word forever

I call my (male) boss a **** fairly regularly, not sure why that word, it just suits him:D. Another member of staff would get Prick regularly and another individual gets bastard. I like to pick an offensive word to suit their personality.

Not at all offended by it.

I don't get how people can be offended by a word anyway. What makes that word so special?

People seem to get offended very easily these days.

We're dîcks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dîcks. And they're cúnts. And he's an azzhole. Cúnts don't like dîcks, because cúnts get fvcked by dîcks. But dîcks also fvck azzholes: azzholes that just want to shït on everything. Cúnts may think they can deal with azzholes their way. But the only thing that can fvck an azzhole is a dîck, with some balls.

The problem with dîcks is: they fvck too much or fvck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a cúnt to show them that. But sometimes, cúnts can be so full of shït that they become azzholes themselves... because cúnts are an inch and half away from azzholes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us fvck this azzhole, we're going to have our dîcks and cúnts all covered in sh1t!

I think the OP is trying to pull off a cunning stunt,by getting everybody to vote on it !!

I never (and still don't) understand the significance of the word. Am I right in saying that the offence is stating that a woman's only worth is her vagina?? Serious question by the way, I just never got the seriousness of it.

I myself don't but my mother certainly does. She will eff and blind with all the words under the sun, but the moment the C word is brought out, she loudly and angrily will tell me off for using it!

I in no way find it offensive, and unless you're offended by cursing in general, I see no reason why it would be. It's insulting, but not offensive.

If you're talking in terms of being derogatory towards women, I find this ridiculous. In the case of it referring to the actual genitalia, it actually refers to the whole thing, whereas vagina simply refers to the passage between vulva and cervix. It's latin for sheath or something along those lines, where a man would put his sword, which seems a lot more vulgar to me. I don't use cunt in this way, and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the word vagina, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the word cunt either.

Or, again in terms of being derogatory to women, if you mean when it is used as an insult... it is not actually insulting women. If you were to be called a prick, it's the same (though cunt has become more vulgar in some parts of society, that's not what I'm getting at). It doesn't refer to the owner of the cunt, just the thing itself. Getting offended by that is a more extreme version of getting offended if someone is called a wet blanket as you take your duvet out of the washing machine. People aren't defined by their genitals, just as I'm not defined by my mickey, feet or nose; some women don't even have vaginas, as transgender people will tell you. And who actually wants to be genitals? It is an insult.

However, if you're simply offended by how coarse and vulgar it is, who gives a fuck? It's a great effective word for people who are being cunts. People seem to think that being offended makes them right a lot; I'm not suggesting the OP is that way, but it happens a lot. And I couldn't give a shite if they are or not.

Cunt is just a word, honestly that's all it is.
It's peoples belief in the word that makes it powerful.
But no the word is no more as offensive as feck is.
