Casting news for season 4

wic.net has it that Owen Teale will be reprising his role as Alliser Thorne in season 4.

I've just started re-watching season 1 and I'm delighted about this. Thorne is such a prick, but you can understand why.

"You don't know cold. Neither of you do. The horses died first. Didn't have enough to feed them, to keep them warm. Eating the horses was easy... but later, when we started to fall... that wasn't easy. We should've had a couple of boys like you along, shouldn't we? Soft, fat boys like you. We'd have lasted a fortnight on you, and still have bones left over for soup. Soon we'll have new recruits, and you lot will be passed along to the Lord Commander for assignment. And they will call you 'men of the Night's Watch,' but you'd be fools to believe it. You're boys, still. And come the winter, you will die... like flies."

Did we see him in season two? He was sent to Kings Landing with news of the white walkers. Did he turn up for council with Tryion?

No, I think you're thinking of Janos Slynt.

No, I think you're thinking of Janos Slynt.

No slynt was captain of the guard in kings landing I thought? Thorne gets sent to kings landing with the hand of a wight to show Joffrey. They never showed him getting there in the series, but I think Slynt is sent to the wall with him.

Yes I know, Son0vagun was asking if he saw Thorne at the small council with Tyrion - I assume he's thinking of Janos.

Yeah I think he's perfectly cast for that role too.

I hope they get the Gregor from season 1 back, far better then the guy in season 2.

Especially for the fight with Oberyn - that's gonna be awesome. They'll have to get someone really, really big like the 1st season one. The one from the 2nd season is obviously huge, but more tall like a basketball than large and bulky like someone called "The Mountain"! 1st season dude fits this perfectly IMO

No I'm not mixing the two. Surprised Thorne never turned up, would have made for a good scene.

The guy in season two played the engineer alien in Prometheus. Pretty sure they can make him look big enough. He was actually the mountain's stuntman in season 1.

Janos Slynt, Lysa Aryyn and Rorge all returning for season 4, also via wic.net.

Not the look I was expecting for The Red Viper - watched a vimeo video of him though, I think he will work, particularly if they are going to go with him being bisexual.

I had hoped it would be Naveen Andrews - but casting has been excellent so far, so I trust we will not be disappointed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Son0vagun

Naveen Andrews is a terrible actor

I can see this guy working.

Looks daycent enough, hard to say without the long hair.

I'd love to see Alfred Molina cast as Doran. He looks just as i always pictured Doran when reading the books. With regards to the guy cast as Oberyn, I was expecting something different, but I can see him working.

I always seen Doran as Ben Kingsley :) , never would happen but he'd be perfect in my opinion. Won't be next season but I can't wait to see Victarion Greyjoy

I hope his 'ELLLIIIIIAAA!' is up to scratch:pac:

I was expecting someone british again like they did with Daario.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,829 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

I think Vladimir Kulich would make a good Victarion when the time comes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

Maybe add spoilers to the title if you're going to talk about next season's events?

I thought they were making the Damphair and Victarion the same to save on characters?

    Really?
Victarion is a turbo-bad ass and damphair is a feeble messed up dude - would be very weird to combine those characters

Is there a link for this - it would seem like a weird combo.

But it's talking about next season, so if you want to stay spoiler free then don't read stuff about future seasons.

I dont think anyone has mentioned any unspoilered events - the thread title is Casting News for Season 4 - so of course, season 5 characters are going to be mentioned!

Victarion & Euron 'the crows eye' are to be merged

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

    That makes more sense

What?! really? But they couldn't be any more different!! Is there anything official on that?

Not quite casting, but Neil Marshall (who directed 2.9 @Blackwater@) is back diecting an episode for season 4.

    Spoilers after link:

Makes sense - there are far too many unnecessary characters in the books.

Pity, Victarion is one of the better side characters.

    'Who are you kraken?'
    'Your death'

It has the potential to ruin the whole ironborn storyline before the next book comes out. Victarion is still
going after Dany and god knows what the Crows Eye has found on his travels

Not sure how you can say things about unnecessary characters, just because they don't go around killing the main characters doesn't mean they don't serve a purpose. There is a need for all the groups of sellswords for instance.

    Can't be true.

Totally ruins them both for us book readers if they merge them.

Their stories aren't even finished in the books yet, to merge them now is odd.

I could understand them reducing The Damphair to practically nothing, or giving his lines to Yara/Asha for the Kingsmoot and all of that.

I got a call today asking if I'd be available to play an unshaven character during filming in August... during the only week of the year that I'm going to be over in New York.

*edit, sorry just noticed that there's already a thread about extras! Please ignore me!

League of Gentlemen actor/writer Mark Gatiss has joined the cast for season four. But they won't say who he will be playing!

    Mace Tyrell?

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Reckon he'd be perfect as Mace. He'd capture the essence of the character; physical appearance is irrelevant. His character in Sherlock is basically like a southern high lord, and I can totally buy him as the oafish father of Margaery and Loras.

Indira Varma cast as Ellaria Sand:

    Indira-Varma.jpg

She was in Rome apparently. Certainly looks similar to how I pictured her anyway.

Yeah, she was Lucius Vorenus's wife. I remember her alright. She is a good choice for it alright.

Can't argue with that. Definitely looks like how I pictured Ellaria.

Casting I am looking forward to seeing now is Val, hopefully they don't mess up the casting, but more than likely, the character is cut.

They didn't include Dalla either. Perhaps they'll include both of them later. Or merge them into 1. They have to have 1 of them.

I love the A.V. Club's coverage of GoT casting:

Without giving too much away to those who haven’t read the books, Oberyn is a man. He breathes and is ambulatory. His turn-ons include living, existing, and not being brutally killed. He also bears the nickname “The Red Viper,” an allusion to a species of snake that’s famous for being alive. Also, he’s described by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss as “sexy and charming,” which should make for an interesting change of pace for Game Of Thrones, throwing a person who enjoys sex in there.

No, they haven't cast Arianne or Val yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

No, they haven't cast Arianne or Val yet.

Hopefully they don't make a complete balls of their casting like they did with Yara/Asha. I had always pictured Arianne and Asha as fairly similar looking, just with Asha being a lot rougher round the edges (not a minger).

    She's not a minger.

I don't think Arianne and Asha are supposed to look similar. One is from Dorne where they look Spanish/Arabic/Indian - think Salma Hayek, Padma Lakshmi, Penelope Cruz. The Iron Islanders are more northern.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

This is pretty much how I pictured Arianne:

    MagaliVilleneuve_AM.gif

I don't know why I began to picture Asha as a very weathered looking version of this.
