No faith in personal trainer

Just had a meeting with a new personal trainer (used a couple before) and I get the impression he's not listening to me. I haven't paid him anything but got a meal plan by email which I found wouldn't really suit me. Whats the best way to tell him I'd rather go elsewhere ??

Also can someone recommend a good PT in the city center ?? preferably someone that's not associated with a gym.

Why not just talk to him about it and explain your issues?

Did you give him guidelines regarding the meal plan that he didn't take into consideration?

It's as much about personalities as it is about professional knowledge. You don't necessarily have to like eachother, but you do have to trust his abilities. You mentioned you've been to a few before, can you go back to them?

There are tons of posters here who are good trainers, CMYK above for example although he's in South Dublin. If you're looking for and near enough town then you have:
    D2: Kieran Hegarty in RAW
    D3: James Hanley, Revolution Fitness
    D8: Iveagh Fitness, Graeme Maher

All based in gyms, but you can visit them there without becoming a member AFAIK.

I wouldn't cut your guy off yet though. With regards to whether the meal plan suits you, they can only do so much - sometimes it's just a case of sucking it up and doing what you're told if you want to get results. Also as you haven't paid him yet, it probably wasn't tailored specifically for you and rightly so; why would he spend time putting together a full dietary programme for someone who isn't a client yet?

Oh I understand that but you're not going to become a client if you feel the PT isn't putting in the time. I know its a catch 22 but first impressions count.

Thing is, if they're good enough then they probably won't actually have the time; it'll be spent trying to cater for their paying clients. I agree first impressions count though so if you think he's not for you then definitely approach one of the above guys.

If you already feel this PT is not listening to you, I'd get out of there quick before any money becomes involved.

There are plenty of trainers who will listen to you and work with you to reach your goals. As long as you also listen to them too.

Regarding the meal plan - did you provide him with your goals and your nutrition requirements? I'd expect him to ask you. But in my experience some PT do not offer nutritional advice as they are not qualified to do so (so I have been told) - but they should point you in the right direction.

Just my experience, as I am on the second PT - the first being a big disaster. (You should have seen the meal plan he gave me!)

Just wondering what wouldnt suit you about the plan? Presume you gave your goals to the PT and he provided a plan to meet those goals? Does the plan not suit you...or ya just dont like it?

Without going into specifics, it was way too vague and non specific and suggested drinking "sports drinks" after a workout  just set alarm bells off when I read it.
