Just a quick question regarding registration for 2014. Is the registration that opens on Wednesday the stage where I pay the €495 or is that in July when it reopens?
I might have to bring forward my little scheme to relieve a small rural post office of the pension money on a Friday in order to pay for this.

Theres always nirvana slots which puts off the payment till later in the year. You pay extra to them though.

Hi Oryx, how much extra would Nirvana cost say on an entry of €450?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭delboyfagan

Forget Nirvana - pay way over the odds - usually 100/150 stg more for the spot and then u have to get hotel and they are massively overpriced.

Last year it took a good week or more to sell out and usually slots become available in Dec/Jan again.

That's not to say it wont sell out fast this year as Jackyback said.

Just organize it that u are there at 9am to register or get someone to do it for u.

Then go and book the Ibis for 50/60 euros a night - 2 mins from Intercontinental hotel.

Can anyone tell me how they transport bikes?
    Will the airline do it?
Or do you use a bike service for this.
    Thanks

Airlines will do it for about €50 each way, and you need a bike box to put it in which will cost you about €50 to rent (unless you can get your hands on one).

Alternatively there are companies that ship bikes for about €170-200. shipmytribike.com

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

The shipment companies usually want the bike boxed too so factor in that cost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 Noel123

Are the airlines safe for transporting bikes e.g. missing, damaged etc?
Where can you rent bike boxes?
    Thanks

Jackyback out of water in 1:19.
Jeff Martin (Pulse) out in 1:11.

Pro's past 30km on bike and Vanhoenacker drilling it with over 1 min lead.

KIENLE still 3 mins back due to swim difference.

Llanos, Jacobs, M Raelert Boecherer, all in chase group.

    Epic racing ahead.

    Any other irish in it?

Other race on is Norway 70.3
The Man Dave Scott is racing Age Group and gonna smash it id say.
One to watch is Kyle Buckingham. AG but almost pro and will prob be top 10 today too.

Poor auld Jackyback, if the last disaster didn't send him to retirement, this surely will.
Some people are just not cut for ironman races.

Nothing you can do about things like this.

This gives his swim a new perspective. Two fractured ribs and remember it ain't long ago his arm was in a sling too ! That is a savage swim considering those two things alone.

Malicious and deliberate full force kick. The guy thought Fran grapped his leg

No he was a fvking arsehole is what he was. I don't think I will ever experience a more painful swim like that.

    +1

Even if it had been Fran. There's no f*cking need for that. Your legs get pulled, kicks in the face, arm gets pulled etc when jostling for space in the swim. Maybe yer man should have started at the back if he didn't want that?

Something similar happened to HM (a former mod) in Austria I think it was a few year ago when someone turned to her in the swim and punched her in the face breaking her nose.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,076 ✭✭✭Rawhead

Tough break man. I genuinely think you must be one of the unluckiest men in this sport.

I can see why this sort of thing happens, adrenaline is sky high and your in full fight or flight mode.

    Doesn't make it right though.

Hopefully see you there next year.

Why though is that sort of behaviour tolerated in the swim portion of triathlons? You will never see someone pushing someone off a bike or punching someone during the run so why is there a culture of acceptance of this sort of behaviour in the water, right through and including the pro ranks? Has anyone ever been sanctioned for this sort of thing before?

The why is easy... no accountability.

How do you identify one person in a wetsuit from 2000 other people.

Because you have 2000 people thrashing about in close proximity who are amped up to the nth degree in an alien environment.
Do you watch or compete in any cycling races? The riders shove each other about all the time.
I really don't think you could police this either, it's just something that happens.

    Hi All,

I also signed up for Frankfurt this year. I am training with a few mates doing Roth instead, and I was wondering if anybody who is also training for Frankfurt and lives around Dublin would be interested in organizing some long session on the bike during the weekends, register for some practice race, and ideally even share some advice on the race itself, in case you did Frankfurt in the past.
It would also be nice to have a good representation of athletes coming from Ireland once in Frankfurt.
    Cheers All,
    Andrea
