    Hi,

Just wondering what peoples opinions are on Angelina Jolie's decision to have a double mastectomy as preventative surgery.

I know that I would probably make the same decision as Jolie has made but I do not know about the screening or the cost involved, nor have I ever been offered information about this at my GP etc. Do you think that this type of screening should be something that is offered to women?

"According to doctors, Jolie's cancer risk after her double mastectomy dropped from 87 percent to less than 5 percent. It's now widely expected that the 37-year-old will next pursue the removal of her ovaries with a procedure known as an oophorectomy."

I understand that this is a very traumatic event and I do believe that you would have to be strong to go through with it. Angelina has received a lot of praise for her choice but I cant help but think that it is the choice that most people would make if they were tested and found to be 87% likely to develop breast cancer and its just an option of prevention that celebrities and rich people now have and less fortunate do not.

I feel that this type of screening should be made more available to people and the option to have the preventive surgery should be offered.
