I am addicted to this stuff. Could easily have 150ml-200ml of it a day. First off, is that too much?

And back to the thread starter, what would be the best brand out there? I've only ever tried Thai Gold's Organic Thai Coconut Milk which is tasty and €2 if I remember correctly.

Was going to start a thread about this...

But more along the lines of "Coconut Milk All Good or All Hype"

Been seeing a whole lot of people are talking about the benefits of Coconut & Almond Milk, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot better than skimmed milk...

    Name|Cals|Carbs|Protein|Fat|Price(per ltr)
    Skimmed Milk(Tesco)|37|4.9|3.6|0.3|0.85
    Coconut Milk(Kara)|27|1.09|0.2|2|1.99
    Almond Milk(Alpro)|24|3|0.5|1.1|2.39

I genuinely don't understand all the hype around these non dairy milks(well not technically milks :p)

I'd imagine coconut milk would have far more vitamins and mineral content than dairy milk.

Just had a quick gloss over this:

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/557604-what-are-the-advantages-of-coconut-milk-vs-dairy-milk/

    Seems accurate enough.

There's room for everything in strict moderation.

I'll never fully give up bread, milk or cheese, but I'll have them a couple of times a week.

Why are you buying Kara Coconut Milk?

    http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/554897_Kara_Freshly_Pressed_Coconut_Milk_1ltr.html
Filtered mains water, Coconut milk 8.4%, Fruit extract concentrate ( grape juice concentrate ), Calcium phosphate, Emulsifier: Sucrose ester, Sea salt, Colour: Natural carotene

All it is is normal coconut milk, sugar and water...

Just get some high % coconut milk from the ingredients shelf and water it down yourself. Cost you far far less €!

aldi and lidl both have the best that i've seen in the supermarkets. both are 82% or thereabouts (and around half the price), where superquinn/tesco seem to hover in the 50's

for some reason the aldi stuff is more liquid than the lidl stuff, which clumps up faaaaar quicker and needs a hell of a shake/mix to get liquid again. iirc the stabilisers listed on the ingredients are the same for both products so i'm not sure what's going on there.

I would recommend Thai Gold Coconut Milk.

And only a natural Stabiliser used as far as I know, and its Organic.

Dunnes stock Blue Dragon Coconut Cream. it's thick butter like stuff, eat with a spoon, 2eur for 250ml. I'm crazy about it at the moment. If you want milk - you can add water. If I buy canned coco milk I never mix the settled cream back in - I eat the cream and throw the rest out.

The Thai Gold brand has the following ingredients:

    Organic Coconut Extract (99.65%)
Stabiliser - Organic Guar Gum (0.35%)

but when I check it online it has the following:

    Coconut Extract (60%)
    Purified Water (39.67%)
    Guar Gum (Stabiliser) (0.33%)

On the website (http://thai.ie/html/sub_pages/products/thai_organic_coconut_milk_more.html) it has the following:

    Typical Values of per 100g
    Energy 202.82Kcal
    Protiein 2.14g
    Carbohydrate: 8.11g
    of which sugars 2.19g
    Fat: 18g
    of which saturates 4.91g
    Fibre <0.5g
    Sodium 26.05g

But on the back of the can I have it has:

    Typical Values of per 100g
    Energy 179Kcal
    Protiein 1.11g
    Carbohydrate: 3.11g
    of which sugars 1.55g
    Fat: 18g
    of which saturates 16.2g
    Fibre 0g
    Sodium 20mg

Am I missing something or why is it different?

    this
    Dunnes usually stock it
and often have 33% off, at random times

any high percentage one, loads to choose from. just water it down or use it in cooking.

Kara or Koko Coconut milk is a dairy alternative, not to be confused with coconut milk for cooking.

Still confused about those Thai Gold numbers!

Also, for those that use that brand, do you just drink it straight sometimes? I'm thinking of adding it to some whey to make a post workout shake.
