Post Gym & Breakfast Combination

    Hey all,

I'm just looking for some advice on a breakfast & post gym combination...

I'm doing quiet a few morning sessions(6.30) in the gym, with work starting at 8.30 most mornings, so I'd normally have my post gym protein shake(30g protein/ 3g Carbs/ 2g Fat), and then my breakfast on arriving home, but this approach leaves my time in the gym limited and at times with me not being able to get all my stuff done, as the gym can be busy...

So I'm looking for a potential home made post gym shake that would work as a post workout and Breakfast...

I know some of ye will say, why not have your breakfast before gym, I'm trying to do my sessions on an empty stomach as some of the stuff I've read suggest that exercising on empty will promote the body to tap into bodyfat stores to fuel your session...I know its a fairly controversial topic, but I generally don't find myself hungry upon waking up, and don't find any difference between energy levels weather i eat pre-gym or exercise on empty.

Although when I'm exercising on empty, I will take my BCAA's and sometimes caffeine and Green Tea(just for a little kick on the harder days in the gym).

Cheers in advance for your help

  • How about prepping your breakfast in advance to speed things up?

The egg-muffins are ideal. Or simply a Greek Yoghurt with Berries breakfast.

I have a similar routine in that I'll do a session at 6:30am, shake directly after. Home, shower, back out the door and then have breakfast at my desk in work.

Don't have the luxury of having breakfast at work...Ideally I want to be able to head straight to work after the gym, this will give me upto 40 minutes extra in the gym which I would really like on at least 2 of my sessions a week

You just completely ignored emmets 3 other good idea's there

    Egg muffins
    Greek Yogurt with berries
Prepping breakfast at home in advance.

    Other suggestions could be

Porridge (bring hot water/milk) in a thermos flask with you.

Or make a 'smoothie' out of your post workout shake and add spinach, oats etc.

We get it, you don't have much time, but I have less time than you (I also go to the gym fasted in the morning as well) and I manage to get everything done because I PLAN IN ADVANCE!

Yogurt really isn't the best option, hot the biggest fan of warm yogurt...

I'm just looking for some alternatives to my usual breakfast...

I came on here in order to aid my planning for next week, when I ramp up my sessions, so there will be two days I won't be able to get back home before work

Where did anyone suggest warm yogurt?
    That sounds awful.

You've been given a few good suggestions at this stage. But looks like you ignored them.

    Egg muffins
    Oats
A breakfast smoothie (ie current shake with X,Y,Z added to make it a decent meal)
Make breakfast at home and bring it with you. The options there are probably endless.

I train 2 mornings before work also, I never go home afterwards. I make breakfast beforehand and bring it with me. Even on non training days, I bring it to work as I'm not hungry first thing.

Boil up a load of eggs on a Sunday and have a couple on the way into work.

    invest in this stuff:
    http://www.fridge-to-go.net.au/smalllunch

also lidl/aldi were selling portable breakfast cereal lunchboxes, bottom half was a tub lined with cooling gel for the milk, top half was for the cereal. milk stayed cold for a good few hours. and you just pour it in and eat when youre ready.

there are tons and tons of companies making chilled lunchboxes so you can't really use that excuse.
