I've noticed many seem to think 40 or 50k per year is a very good salary for example and from numerous other comments I'm getting the impression your typical boardsie is quite the peasant.

Dunno. 40 to 50k is a good comfortable wage (depending on the size of your family), but a lot of people on here are students, or early-mid 20s and not earing anywhere near that much, but may well do in the future.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Poverty is relative to you're enviroment and what you've become acustomed to.

Poorest person I ever met was a genuine Laird - poor guy was beyond skint living in a falling down castle in Scotland with a tree growing up through the lobby. He got the title, the castle, the debts and some land rented out to crofters for £6 a year. Poor but not a 'peasant'.

    Depending on circumstances 40 - 50 k a year is a good salary.

Just because you have turned 18 & watched your first porn on your phone does not make you a grammer nazi.

It will be a while before you're working full time to fully understand how your lifestyle and the wages you earn affect your level of poverty.

Having more money than you can spend without spending on luxury is a good comfortable salary.
3k per month after the rent is paid is that amount IMO

    :D
The example doesn't work with mortgages as they are often too much of a drain or much cheaper then rent.
When renting you are more likely to live within your means.

wasnt aimed at you just those who think that way. being poor is not being able to actually feed yourself. its the definition of poor, you cant be fat AND poor, just poorER than others. having money for beer automatically disqualifies you from being poor

As my own person Id be happy with half that much but im single and only responsible for myself along with typical things id pay for at my age. Iv committments but no major life ones at the moment.

Depends on what you call poor. A salary of between 22k - 30k a year I would class as good if you are a single man or even have a partner. Rent and bills can be paid with enough left over for a decent social life/savings for the future etc. Even with pay cuts, an honest look at your lifestyle can always leave room for improvements and substitutions. I agree if you have kids it can get very tight below 30k but I would never consider between 20k and 30k a poor salary. Anyone who does must be living in a bit of a dream world. :D

Don't consider myself well off but for the first time in a long time I am doing well. Most debts paid off. About 450 left on a loan to go, should have that gone by August. Just have to be a bit thrifty at times but doing well I guess.

Don't think he is trolling as people before were saying 50k isn't great. It depends where you are living 35K outside of Cork and Dublin if you are single is a great wage as houses are much cheaper. Can get a nice three bedroomed house in Kilkenny for 100,000 or less. In Dublin probably 290,000.
Also the price of everything is lower outside of those two cities.
