just wondering has anyone managed to get fibre installed between 1.5km-2km from the cabinet with extended reach yet? if so what speeds are you getting, most of the replies here seem to be the lucky folk who live within 500 meters of the cabinet.

On outskirts of Castlebar, approx 1.5 km from the cabinet and just got upgraded today!

Used to sync at 5mb and now getting 7mb. But that translates in the real world from download speeds of 840MB/s now versus 480MB/s before so big improvement plus pings times are halved. But the big step up will be when they switch on the extended service, I think I should receive just less than 20mb then.

Think I am just over 1km from the cab and I got it installed today by VF and I am getting 12mb/1mb

Yeah, I estimate you should get approximately: 48.888 Mbps down / 13.971 Mbps up with those stats.

just noticed that Total Attenuation: 14.8 dB 29.1 dB is very high i must not be connected the the cab that i thought i would be

incorrect. with vectoring enabled correct. but as it stands not really a hole lot of improvement can be made

mine sits at 14.1 dB (sometimes 14.3 dB but i dont know how thats working as the cab nor my house are moving lol) and i sync at 50174 Kbps / 20479 Kbps so id say theres room for a little bit of a boost. ive noticed eircom always seam to hold back on the upload speed while other providers that resell eircom vdsl dont

once thats done check out your real ping time as the speedtest ones are rarely right

maybe a 2.5mb bump first and if its stable boost it up another 2.5 just once your SNR dont drop below 6-6.5 as youll get disconnects then

Does this magical 'vectoring' happen auto-magically and might it improve the speed closer to the 'Attainable Net Data Rate' ?

Before yea ask - yup, I'm a distance 'not stone throwable' from the cab :pac:

    Hi,

I have efibre installed a few months now
when initially installed I had an attainable download speed in excess of 100Mbps

Now two months later its down to 59Mbps

Nothing has changed except some neighbours signing up for efibre

    So is this normal?

Could any of you who have just got efibre take a screen shot of your stats and check again a month later?

    Roll on Interleaving!!!

I know at least a few of my neighbours have gotten it recently.

If vectoring becomes available do we have to pay anything extra to eircom? Also will we automatically get Upgraded?

Does this magical 'vectoring' happen auto-magically and might it improve the speed closer to the 'Attainable Net Data Rate' ?

Before yea ask - yup, I'm a distance 'not stone throwable' from the cab pacman.gif

2700+ meters from a cabinet is not a stones throw on vdsl, im surprised they even connected you to it and didnt just offer a dsl package

and nope they havnt enabled vectoring and theres no set date for it yet i dont think

The vectoring system will begin rollout in early 2014 and will be available on all lines on Eircom’s fibre network – 1.2m premises – by 2015.

I'm 1500m~ from the cab - I know as I had to direct the eircom tech to the cab :)

Cool stuff, twill sit in wait. Any guestimation of the speeds after Vectoring is enabled? Near the 'Attainable Net Data Rate'

I'm no expert but I'd imagine vectoring should double your speed depending on what limit they subject the speed to.

I've asked on another thread how much it would increase for users on the fringes I'm over a KM from the cab

By foot you may be, but by line distance you aint! attenuation of 34.1dB = 2461 Meters thats nearly 2.4k away from a cabinet and on the outer reach of vdsl, hence why i said im surprised they connected you to vdsl

now if your attenuation was more around 20.72dB you would be 1500M from the cabinet in cable length and your download speed would be closer to 20mb

That might be correct from this online tool which I'm guessing your basing your info from, but your using the 'default' cable loss.
Now lets say Eircom have used cheap/crappy cable in the past 10~ years to save money and the cable loss instead of being 13.81 dB/km is now around 20~22 dB/km. Using that cable loss figure will show me the correct distance. Now unless Eircom have a 1km of a test/backup role of copper in a cab somewhere or now run their cables across fields my distance calc is correct

Interested to see how did you got 34.1dB from the stats I posted, can't work that out myself

Any idea on how much upload speed it might give with vectoring?

When people are posting their stats, look for "Attainable Net Data Rate". That will tell you what speed you'll get when you switch vectoring on.

I see, Thanks for the help.

    Just checked my stats:
    Downstream Attenuation 22.2 dB
Cable loss 13.81 dB/km (default=13.81) -not sure what to put in
    Approximate Distance 1608 meters
    ADSL Max Speed 8000 kbps
    ADSL2+ Max Speed 19758 kbps
    VDSL2 Max Speed 20771 kbps

    3135506419.png

So when vectoring comes in I should get 20Mbs?
