Am I right in saying that you still can't order replacement cattle tags on-line?
You still have to print off the form, sign it and e-mail it to them? :(

Especially when its calling out herd no. or tag no. over the phone . It would be alot easier to type them into the 'puter and be able to double check them before completing the order . Plus it would be nice to be able to do it at night when sitting down instead of wasting daytime on phonecalls .

I ordered tags for new born calves and have only found out there's a three week wait on them, a complete joke...
How come they can deliver replacement tags in a few days and it takes three weeks for new tags???

Don't get me started:( One of me and whelan's pet hates. Does anyone know what strings are being pulled:(so that this shower of wnakers continue to have a monopoly on probably 3-4million tags a year?

yes but if you make an error filling out the form, you are back to square 1

But you have to find a form. Fill it up. Find an envelope. Find a stamp. Maybe que at the post office. Maybe have to drive to town especially for that.

This is 2013. Those tags should be orderable in an instant, right from a smart phone. There should be an APP for that. If a lad sees a missing tag, when he is herding, he / she should be in a position to order tag, right there in the field.

For those who want to go the paper and snail mail route, that should also be an option.

BUT, the contract should NOT, be awarded to ANY supplier, who cannot offer a full blown e-commerce method of supply.

Plus, as in AGFOOD website (which is brilliant), a proper system, prevents you from making a whole range of different mistakes. If you input a bad tag number it flags it, for example.

I took a dislike to them ever since I tried to order a couple of replacement tags together with a batch of new tags. Being a poor farmer :D I wanted to just pay the postage for the new tags and they could put in the couple of replacement tags with them but no . Only the order for the new tags was processed and I had to send a cheque for the postage of the replacement tags. Both types of tags arrived separately.

I spent a half hour onto management one day with the exact same issue. I told them I was in no rush for the replacement tags but they insisted they have to send them straight away, then I insisted that I needed the new calf tags as the calves were coming up to 21days old which they said wasnt there problem.

    Hello.
First time I have to order replacement tags.
Am I right in saying it's from mullinahone
I have to get the tags?
    Still no online order facility?
Also if it's a bvd tag that I need to replace do I just get a normal one and repunch the ear?
    Thanks in advance

I just ordered Calf Tags there from Mullinahone COOP. Straight forward too, just had to register with them first (all done on-line). About time, I suppose, but at least they got it right.
Or should I wait till I get my Tags before I pass judgement.

Yeah it looks to be pretty good now.
I still had to post away a form though. A lot of the bvd tags last year were faulty.
Supposedly free of charge to replace but we'll see.

Under their government contact they have to supply the replacement tags that quick. I'm guessing that may be something to do with the need for cattle to be double tagged and the need to minimise the hold up on replacements when a tag is lost whereas new tags can be ordered in advance.

As far as I know, replacements are produced locally whereas new orders have to come from France

What annoys me about the new tags is the way they are in the box.
The the larger no's are there when you open them so if you forget to tahr them out and repackage them you can end up skipping no's
    .
I know it is not the end of the world but it is annoying when you realize you have tagged a calf out of sequence

not impressed with mullinahone service /lack of professional approach or website

they just seem like they don't care, should be a bit of competition introduced

and as previous poster said I could clearly hear another farmers name address herdnumber and card details called out... dodgy (it could be me I was thinking)

The new online ordering system is excellent, ordered replacements on line yesterday evening, got a text at 5 o clock this evening to say they were dispatched.very efficient

I also find mullinahone on line ordering excellent and tags arrive very quickly ,one of the few companies that are a pleasure to deal with and postage rates are better than a couple of years ago by the way who hates all this press 1 for someone who knows nothing press 2 for music press 3 for someone to tell you you need 1

Ordered one batch April 10th still no sign, had replacement tag next day ! Ordered another few tags on other herdnumber April 21st and low and behold got email saying both are dispatched together .. What were they doing the 11 days in between ??!!

The April 10th ones will be well outside the 15 working days when delivered ... Shouldn't be with one company .. You need competition in all industry to get a competent level of service and price

not standing up for them or anything but there where bank holidays in that time frame, they have well improved on the replacement tag front.

Yup I had one fall out after a week . They are in a clean garden and it didnt tear out cos the hole is still there . Are they giving free replacements this year I wonder ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭Paddysniper

I know the bvd tags last year were faulty.
I had to order a lot of them.
As far as I know you need to order them through the post on one of their order forms.
I think they will know when the tags were issued last and if there was a free replacement issued already.
If there wasn't then you won't be charged.

I wonder it the sun was breaking the plastic down or was it just a design flaw. A lot of mine broke around the same time too.

Slightly diff thing but which ear (as you stand in front of calf looking at him/her) do ya put BVD tag in,was at a few this eve and from memory put them in right hand ear as ya look at calf, but to balance it out did one the other way round;)...in theory shouldn't matter as long as proper sample goes away to be analysed.

The calves I bought in last year were all done on their left ear.
I bought new bvd sampling tags a week ago and the leaflet says to do it on the animals right ear.
    No difference I'd say.

Write the numbers on a sheet of paper, not order forms. I did this and got 17 tags free as they were the bvd ones from last year. Wad told to do it that way by woman in mullinahone.
