I have recently tried one of these classes with a view to increasing muscle strenght/stamina and would have to say it seems like a good workout, there seems to be conflicting views on the benefits of bodypump does anyone on here have any views ??

    What are the conflicting views?

The only downside I see to them is they are usually low weight, high reps and really more of a cardio workout than strength.

Did one a few weeks back and it was a good workout. Like Stench says its high rep (huge volume) low weight stuff without many breaks. Similar to boot camp type training. I am well used to training and I was knackered. It will build muscular endurance, lactic acid tolerance and cardio but not strength.

Its good fun, with a competitive element. I wouldnt do it as my only training, but to mix things up its a fun alternative.

    What are the conflicting views?

    .

Some were suggesting that it promoted poor form among those unaccustomed to the use of free weights.
And that the benefits of the program where unclear.

Personally I found my first session to be quite good.

From what I can figure out its very decent cardio.

But if you want to build muscle, it's not the most effective.

If you enjoy it, do it.

Its excellent if you want to build lean definition.
Maybe not so good if you're looking to add massive size/volume.

    Source?

Building lean definition just sounds wrong.

If you got more 'definition' you probably lost bf. So you probably didn't actually build anything. If you get me.

There must be some element of muscle development, however small.

I think he knows that ya don`t build alot.

Building lean definition sounds cooler than lost bodyfat.

A bit like €1.99 sounds cheaper than €2. Bad comparison.

From what I understand its essentially a cardio workout. With weights.

I'm sure there is an element of hypertrophy for some people. Probably untrained. But anybody doing resistance work to any real extent isn't going to see any gainzz.

As has been said, it is what it is, and it does a job but it's not for building anything. Except of course muscular endurance and fitness levels. Which is good.

As a former Les Mills Instructer in a few programmes ... please take it as a cardio workout, squat track, back track and lunge and shoulder tracks will set that HR up ...

If you are looking to get strong, Body Pump is not how to do it tbh

    What's lean definition?
It's there a fat definition? I think cracking how to build fat definition would help the average gym goer much more
