Just wondering is there anyone up for this next sunday 16th June.
have the guts of a map in my head but will need to link sections of it together.
Basically there will be 2 meet up points.
One at St colmcilles gaa in swords for those coming from Swords etc and the second at The Round Towers service station where those of us coming from the northern end will meet up.
and thinking of ending up in the Grange cafe in ballyboughal.
V1.0 here ->http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80853358 but there will be nowhere near as much climbing but more 'pave' ie back roads that usually only the farmers use. Some of these roads give fantastic views on sunny days.
    So who is in.....

Timewise: Not sure. Not too early but not late.
Circa 9-ish from the start point.

Fathers day: I do now

Can'r make it this time but would recommend it. BCMF's knowledge of the back roads of NCD verges on spooky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭ian_rush

Would give it a lash too. Couple of roads I thought were deadends so never tried.

Haha, no bother, just worth going to see some more of the hidden gems of NCD. AS for it being on Fathers day, That's our day to do what we want to do. Can someone tell my wife for me.

well out with the Lion of Fingal this morning and he was offering to ring everyone's wife.
Nothing to do with cycling but he was offering.

Any chance of making the route 100km - perhaps start more south, or go more west? Just seems a bit odd to use the commute there and back to fill up a gaping 36km deficit.

    I ride deliverance country, frequently.

Mind you, I'd give anything to ride BNC 100v2.0 next weekend.

well if you live further south of swords or further north of Bskbriggan you can ride to the start point. If not I will have a look at the route and see.

Count me in. Should get over the 100 distance mark getting to the start and back home after the finish.

Cant make it this year, I have another cycle I am committed to on Sunday - I would treat a pass to do a 100k around NCD the best Fathers day pressie ever !

Coming from near tallafornia so I'll be way past 100km if I do the spin, but my point was that you can't really call it a 100km spin unless everyone does the same 100. I'm not trying to wind you up or cause offence but I've got to call a spade a spade in this case!

Well I tell yis what. I can edit the title or throw in a loop around Snowtown. Makes no difference to me I will let the guys who are doing it decide

Throw a loop in up to North of Snowtown and bring us back to the origninal route at Naul via, the NCD Marmotte combo of Mullaghteelin and Snowtown!

Yeah had something like that in mind. Thinking of a small diversion over snowtown but from a back road from stamullen and into Naul for coffee. After coffee straight back up Snowtown and then rejoIn original route. Not sure if it will make up 30 odd km but certainly more challenging as the approach to the first ascent ofsnowtown is a lot more lumpy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,547 ✭✭✭funkyjebus

I might be in depending on the length. I'll be cycling out from Blackhorse ave, which is 24km each way, so whatever distance you do, I'll have to add 50km. So my vote is for the 65k.

Anyone heading from my way want to share the wind with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,509 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

I think I cycled out this way a few years ago for the Swords Sportive...I think I need to head for the airport?

Route looks great BCMF looking forward to it ( as long as nobody mentions Bellewestown i'm happy), will recommend the Spin to anybody wanting an alternative tour around the roads* of NCD, last years one was great, even though I did collapse after it (only started cycling a few weeks). My work is based in this County, I live not 10 minutes from most of the route and from looking at your map I'm fairly sure I have not cycled or even driven 50% of it!

    * BCMF’s definition of what a road is may differ to some peoples :)

    New map done.
Now the map is coming in at 68km from St.Colmcilles BUT as part of the map is missing from where I have stopped it you can add about 10km back to Colmcilles (Start point).
I have made it that we go over Snowtown froma slightly and IMO harder way and drop into Naul for Coffee and scones. Then literally turn around and go back up Snowtown and back down into the rolling roads.
Myself,Rob Fowl and whoever else from Lusk area will meet at round Towers service station. I will link a seperate map for it but is stupidly simple.
Thread title stays the same. 100km or not.
Dont be fooled by the 70 odd km distance. Your legs will know you have been out.

This started out sounding like a nice friendly spin and looks like it will end up being a cross between deliverance the tour of Flanders. I will have to start preparing excuses.

I remember that, think you had 3 punctures finishing with a nice blowout as we had coffee? Lets just make sure Bcmf gets his coffee fix in early this time so we don't miss the start again ;-)

Can't figure out where the 30x32 is going to come in. Unless there is a Mullaghteelin Bellewstown bonus track

Ah I was slagging c_daly. Trust me when I say that no route of mine will ever everrrrr include a climb where anything below a 39 is needed.
