Totally new to boating so dont have a clue about registering them or if they need to be registered

I am looking to buy a second hand speedboat or jet ski abroad

When importing back to Ireland what is the procedure with registration and that and when I'm buying it should I be given a sea certificate or log book or something never bought one before so don't know how you transfer ownership officially

Also with insurance what documentation is required?

    Thanks

Hi Donkathon welcome, there is a bit of info on it here http://www.powerboat.ie/forums/topic/4387-buying-boat-from-abroad/ unless your in the big money market most secondhand boats and jet ski are sold as seen with very little or no paperwork. There are lots of good deals to be had here in Ireland at the moment and it's a buyers market so the with the time and money you spend shipping a boat it may not work out much cheeper also here you can go and look at the boat and maybe even get a test run before you buy. You don't need to register the boat but if you are using it on the inland waterways and it's over 15 hp you should http://www.waterwaysireland.org/Pages/Boating/Boat-Registration-and-Permits.aspx it's free and they send you a nice welcome pack along with your number. As for insurance it will depend on the price you pay for the boat if it's under €10.000 you may not need any paper work just the make of boat, engine hp and worth if you do a powerboat course this will help bring down the cost and is a great way to learn how handle a boat http://www.powerboatschool.ie/
