Injury to finger

Playing football last night in goal and saved a strong shot, the little finger got bent back and the pain was severe. I couldn't bend the finger and it had swelled right up. Later when I got home I tried to move the finger and I heard an audible "click". The relief was instant and I could move and bend the finger.

This morning it's pretty stiff and sore but I can bend it. Just looking for treatment suggestions? Ice it, strap it? I presume it was dislocated, do I need to see a doctor to check it. I'd prefer not to.

Look on the bright side, that €50 will cover you for a GP referral to a hospital for an X-Ray. It's €100 to go to A&E for the same thing.

You will need an x-ray to see if you chipped a bit off the bone when it came out or when it went back it. That bit of bone will cause you trouble if floating around the joint.

You use your hands everyday. Go to the doctor, mate of mine cracked the bone right were the tendon meets the finger... he wasn't going to get it looked at until someone pointed out he worked in a hospital and literally had no excuse for not having it looked at... turned out that the crack was basically just holding the tendon on and if he'd kept moving it the tendon would have pulled on the crack until the tendon pulled off a chip of bone, detaching it from the bone and he'd have lost most of the mobility in the finger. Ever seen an auld lad with his little finger curled up all the time? It's not always arthritis.

    Go get it looked at.

I broke a finger two years ago and ignored it. It still hurts sometimes.

    Get it checked.
