Am I covered? :/ Note that I am not very good at paper 1 and am relying on my oral, comprehensions and 'Gafa' questions to gain me marks! Looking for a C3 (minimum) / C2 (preferably)

Feeling so laid back about Irish :D
Approximating I got about 25/40% in the oral, im only gonna learn an ghaeilge, education and media! I'm not counting Irish in my points so I have no problems with making up a half assed essay on the spot :D

Are those your essay topics? I'd imagine you have covered pretty much everything there! I would love a broad essay as in 'problems in society today', we could literally throw everything in!

Still haven't got the knack of studying for the essay, do most people just learn essays off by heart or vocab or what? My brain is just a black hole, refusing to remember anything....

I've covered everything bubblegumbitch has + problems on the road, homelessness, bullying and old people. Hoping I'll be covered, but you never know! I would die for an A in irish but it really depends on what my oral mark was

I dont really learn anything, I just remember vocab for each topic, a seanfhocal or two but I never learn essays off by heart, the morning of the exam I'll have a quick glance over the ones I've written up until now.

I would love something easy like: "Na fadhbanna is mó inár sochaí inniu" ... That would be a dream essay! :)

    So this paper approaches.....
Have to learn off my essay (note the singular!)
The thing about this exam is the over abundance of time! It always makes me feel weary. I think once my essay is done I'm gone to study last minute Biology!
Immigration/recession and maybe, depending on how my other Study this weekend, Some Media/youth stuff! :)

hey there i've an irish scéal prepared but i'm not too sure if it would be off high enough standard for an A. I was wondering if anyone would care to read over it and give me some advice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭ChromosomeT

lads I've a scéal done out on the theme of éadochas / díoma etc all along those lines but i'm not sure if it is enough to get a decent high mark. would anyone care to look over it and possibly give me a few pointers?

Does anyone have an essay/debate/whatever on the importance of Irish / Media in today's world ? Would really appreciate it! I have one on eisimirce if someone wants to trade. :P

Before! Which is REALLY annoying as it starts at 2, about the time that the mass exodus from CSPE begins.

Just put your hand up if you can't hear it.
Tape is the start of Paper 1. I'm hoping for at least 50 in that as I have been getting nearly full marks in all the past ones recently (all the first time I've heard them)
For an essay, I have so much notes on loads of topics that I don't even know where to begin.
I feel my standard of Irish could BS me a C on the essay though hopefully!

We have our exams in about 15 different classrooms with only 8 in each! :D
For the whole leaving like! I'd hate to have it in a hall!

Are people learning essays off or just writing them in there? Could not be bothered learning anything off unless anything highly specific is predicted in HL? Also just out of curiosity did anybody else's oral examiner tell them their score? I know that they aren't supposed to but mine did

15 examiners? what a joke to the tax system that is, we have about 150 in one hall and only three examiners

What is your approach to the aural? I used to listen through once carefully taking in what was going on, then fill in the answers on go 2 and 3 and it was perfect! Now the eejits have cut it to 2 gos, and I'm very worried I'll miss out on loads of answers! I mean, 10% is quite a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭Legion.

Try and get the answers both times its played. But instead of writing them in full during the recording, write them short hand and fill them in during the breaks. Only thing I can think of really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭outnumbered

I did a really good oral. I am only looking to pass Irish so if i did the listening, the comprehensions, an essay (i'm learning uneployment/immigration and media/youth), attempted everything else but didn't learn it, There's a god chance of passing isn't there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭Legion.

If you did all of that, and even tried the pros/filiocht questions with whatever Irish you have you'd nearly be closer to a C at least..

Great to know! I did that in my mocks without the oral and got 57%!

Mhm, if you have a decent standard of Irish and don't mind learning a few phrases off its not hard to get at least a C.

Lads, it's Bliain na Gaeilge, don't be surprised if something comes up in the essay on it!

I'm going to blare some Raidió na Gaeltacht in preparation for this listening, hope my family like trad music! :P

You could definitely fit it in there, I'm sure :) It mightn't be specifically about Bliain na Gaeilge, but I'm convinced that Gaeilge will show its face as an aiste/debate title in some form. Same goes for it being the year of An Tóstál, eisimirce should turn up either as well or instead of Gaeilge. If either of them don't come up I will actually go nuts :P

I'll learn a bit on An Tostal aswel, and Bliain na Gaeilge for me will have to do as An Tostal and Todhchaí na Gaeilge :P I hope Eisimirce appears :) So will I! I'm banking on Eisimirce or Problems in Ireland today! :O

I wouldn't suggest doing the debate unless you've gone over it excellently and know they lay-out well.
I mean, I'm from the Gaeltacht, Irish is my first language and I have been debating competitively for 2 years. My Irish teacher is our trainer and she told us not to touch the debate on Paper 1!

Apparently it's very difficult to get the correct tone and format/layout right. She also said something about needing the right statistics and just generally needing to know the ins and outs of that type of debate. I didn't question it, I'm focusing on the gearrscéal anyway.

I wouldn't be as quick to dismiss the debate, we have a great irish teacher and we've been advised to do either the aiste or debate or the alt nuachta if it fits but I don't see the problem with debates? Our teacher is also in charge of the irish debating team in school and they're forever winning stuff so I'm gonna trust her judgement.

Yeah my teacher a top class one and she recommended it :/

Would imirce be a social problem, just per say if an essay on social problems came up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭HPMS

I'm sorry but...I don't understand why we should stay away from the debate? Once you have the intro and conclusion learned off the rest is practically the same as an aiste. You just need to add in the odd "you cannot agree with the opposition...blah blah blah"...

    Or am I wrong??

Also, does anyone happen to have nice phrases for the debate? I have the intro and conclusion, it's just the other stuff I'm wondering about. Thanks :)

mhothaigh me compordach ar chor ar bith.An mhaidin ina dhiaidh sin dhúisigh me le scread coscán. Bhi gach duine ag brostu ar obair agus bhí na
paistí ag dul ar scoil chomh maith. Bhí boladh breán uaim faoin am seo agus chaith mé an lá ar fad ag baint trial as post a fháil ach ar an drochuair theip orm. Tar éis cúpla la ní raibh post ar bith agam agus ní raibh a lán airgead fágtha agam ach oiread. Chaith mé breis is dhá uair a chloig ag stánadh ar an trácht agus pian díochmhar I mo bholg leis an ocras. Tar éis tamaill thus mé faoi deara bean beag aosta ag druidim liom. Thosaigh sí ag caint liom
faoin a saol agus tabhacht an chlann freisin. D’inis mé mo scéal di agus bhí a fhios agam gur duin tuiscineach cliste í. Thug sí comhairle maith do magus tar eis cúpla uair bhí me ar an mbád abhaile.Nuair a shroic me an teach bhí mo dhearthair ó gag súgradh sa ghairdín. Ba bheag nár this sé I laige
nuair a chonaic sé mé. Rith se i mo threo agus thug sé póg mór dom. Bhí faoiseamh an domhain ar mo mháthair ach ag an am chéanna bhí sí ar buile liom. Thug sí íde na muc is na maidrí dom. Gan amhras ar bith chodail mé go sámh an oíche sin.
That's it? :O Sorry I don't know cause we don't do the sceal but it seems very short tbh.

Unfortunately, like Outnumbered we don't do the sceal so I can't really comment on to how good it is. However, I can assure you that it is not too short. They only look for 500-600 words for the ceapadoireacht and that's 685 so there's no shortage there :)
Also because only 20 marks go for the actual content and 80 go for the Irish used, as long as you have a good bit of vocabulary and most of your grammar is correct, you should be on track for a high mark :)
