I am 25 years of age and 76kg/167 pounds.

I am currently training for a 15Km run,I am doing between 10Km/15Km a week.I have also started a 5 x 5 workout plan,I am looking to build some ripped muscle. Also want to maintain my current weight.

I have started taking Whey Protein,is there anything else I should be taking and if not,how many scoops(grams),should I be taking a day?

    Any advice is welcome.

You should consume a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight at the least. If you're getting for say 140g of protein from solid foods and you need to hit 170g then take 2 scoop, probably 60g but depending on your protein brand it'll be more like 46g of actual protein consumed. That would bring you to 186g per day.

This isn't necessarily true. For putting on muscle the required amount is something like 1.3g/kg bodyweight. The 1g/lb is just a convenient way of saying it to get in a lot of protein. Even on a cut you don't need that much. If you are building muscle though more protein wouldn't hurt at all. Personally I take in a bit more than 1g/lb myself but that's mainly cause I like meat and it's easier to get in than fat. I try to avoid dodgey carb sources but still get in a fair chunk as part of my daily intake.

That's why I said a grams per pound at least.

Huh? I'm saying you don't need 1 gram per pound but rather about 1.3g per kg. That's nearly half of what you're saying.

Oops sorry I took you up wrong :P

Why would you say almost half of what is usually a general rule of thumb?

I used to believe it before but I trust the examine site as a source for most of my supplement and nutrition related questions and I've read it in a few other places since. I can dig them up if you're interested in reading them when I get home.

Not trying to put you down but you would be better off training harder and looking at your diet before worrying about spending your hard earned cash on whey protein, its not the magic potion some people would have you believe

No, but it's the cheapest source of protein of which I'm aware, and damned convenient to have around if you're struggling to make up your quota for the day.

Eggs, chicken, turkey, nuts etc. Plus he's not trying to bulk up and the amount of exercise being done even a half decent diet should surfice. I on the phone but luckyloydd in the other protein thread started up tonight has an excellent post, better than I could explain, sorry can't link it
