Beara camera club had around 400 of them on facebook last night, but they all seem to be gone now. All the photos had a big dirty watermark across the middle anyway!

friends were heros and did the 160.

:D Great spin - definitely the best route for a sportive in the country. Since the tour of Meath I've only managed to get 3 spins on the bike in total, 30km, 60km and 50km so I found it incredibly tough - without doubt the hardest day I've ever had in the saddle. I'm not sure whether it was that the route was that tough or if it was just that my legs deserted me after the first food stop.

The killer for me was all the uncategorised climbs that I hadn't been expecting - in my head it was fairly flat aside from the 3 passes so I wasn't prepared for that ramp before the first ascent of the Healy Pass or the road from Allihies to Eyeries - stunning scenery but very very painful on the legs.

Christ, that 160 reminded me of SWMBO.

A complete ballbreaker, but stunning to look at and a great ride!

Great day, smashing weather, and toblerones!! at the foodstop. Thanks to all volunteers.
Met one boardsie, scubascobe (?) Not sure did I hear with the blood pounding in my ears on Caha.
Re crap cyclists, sure isnt that part of it, an event for all abilities, get people out enjoying cycling. We were all clueless starting out!
If you want a higher standard, go racing. Although maybe not A4,

Hi Roger, t'was me you met briefly.. got out of the saddle to stretch my legs going up Caha and when I sat back down the saddle slammed home to the seat post so had to stop for some running repairs.

Great day out for all. Well run event and the announcer at the end was hilarious.. beautiful day, scenery, people and pints. This one is going on the permanent for sure bhoy.

What a beautiful day to be lucky enough to be cycling in what I would regard as Irelands best route. Real climbing, stunning scenery and good roads for the most part. Only Slea Head/Conor Pass can rival down there. Did the 85 as needed to be back in the city early (regrettably!) but enjoyed it immensely. The coast road it now goes around is beautiful but the bump at Tuosist before the Healy was missed!

Fair play to the marshals who were out in force on the road but one bad mark for the angry dude at the finish. We came in with about the first 20 folks from the 85km to which were told we could not have any food as we must have passed out the lead car or left early. Calmly told him we left at 10.30 with everyone else, stopped at the food stop, moving time of around 2H 50M which was what we had expected and ‘NO, not plausible, the lead car is at the Healy so you must have gone early or passed him’. Just wanted a sandwich and a coffee before I had to drive back, for 40 odd euro I was a bit disappointed.

He eventually came round when people were stacking up and he was told the last time the lead car was spotted was the driver having his lunch at the food stop and telling folks he wasn’t leaving for about another half an hour.

Apart from that it was and is the best sportif in the country and will grow and grow.

Enjoyable day, marred by the fact we couldn't get any food after either and had to go to the local pub. A well run event but think I will give it a miss next year as the lack of food kinda spoilt it for me.

The amazing course, the beautiful weather and rolling over the 160k course 50 mins faster than last year did it for me. This edition of the Rebel Tour has been the best sportif I've ever done...
Beara is simply magnificent and the stretch between Allihies and Eyeries must be one of the most beautiful spots on the planet.
    Suggestions for improvements:
    1) Print out the ticket for the registration - Not a very green policy. A ref number should have been enough
    2) This thing of discouraging people leaving early and then denying them a sandwich is absolutely ridiculous.

A big thank you to the marshalls, the volunteers at the food stops and all the people of Beara.

Could not agree more. Amazing place.

Regarding the sandwiches, it was very surprising that there were none at the second stop. I wouldnt be a big sandwich person so didnt really bother me, but I'm sure many were understandably disappointed.

Yeah, I got to the top of that, and thought it was Healy Pass, thought it wasn't that bad really. Got quite confused when I got to the bottom and saw the signs "Refuel for the pass" :D

I had intended getting down to Dingle this summer but just never happened so its definitely one for 2014, all going well. Never been down there!

Heading there this weekend so its the best that Ireland has to offer two weekends in a row. Scenic Slea Head with the Conor Pass and numerous other climbs on offer too, its great...and the road surface is good around there too. Make sure you get down there, there is a great 135km sportive during Dingles Feile Na Bealtaine with the added extra of that festival being on!

definition of "soul destroying" - flicking through about 2,500 photos and not seeing yourself in one of them!

Same here Im sure there are some missing I was full sure I passed at least 3 photographers asked Beara Camera club on facebook and was told thats all of them.. and its not just me even the groups I was with throughout the day none of them either... think about it 2500 photos not alot really considering size of event...

I actually had one of the photographers shout "2121, I got ya there!" as I was trying to keep my head down! No sign in the pics though. :(

down around Allihies during all those steep ramps, 2 lads definitely snapped me, so was looking forward to seeing them! Was the same on the SKT I was snapped near the top of Mahon Falls but no sign of that either. Not the end of the world of course but they just would have been nice to have.

I heard there was a nasty enough crash caused by a fella bomming down caha, weaving in and out, clipping a fellas front wheel, the lad that got clipped got some nasty road rash and cuts

Is there any word on what happened and how the guy is? I ended up leaving a bit early so as to get through the two descents - caha and healy in smaller groups. Is there anything that can be done when someone acts reckless like that?

We were with the 85km group and made sure we got as close to the front as we could on the Caha to avoid being on a descent with hundred of folk, always the dodgiest at these type of events.

they could start an initiative like the ROK committee and appoint a set of Cycle Marshals whose visible presence might discourage same and who could take down cyclist numbers and report back to the RT committee who could ultimately ban the cyclist from next year event.

With the proximity of the descents to the start, I found it strange how much the organisers actively discouraged early starters, considering that would reduce the pressure on the descents. I wonder did the accident occur when the 160 group was descending? I heard about it at later on, at the second feed stop

I think the beauty of the Rebel Tour is the twists and turns - you needed to be sharp all the time!

Maybe they should do something like that about the marshals at the ROK

3 guys were involved in crash. First guy (who I think was doing all the weaving ) was wearing some kind of yellow Longford club top. He damaged both shoulders. Blades possibly broken. He was carted off to hospital, so I didn't here any more.
Second guy (who was clipped) got some severe cuts and grazes. Thought his wrist was broken, but x-rays in hospital showed it was just hyperextended. His carbon bike is a write off. He'll be out of action for a bit.
Third guy (my brother) was lucky. Sore back, shoulders and knee. He finished the 160, although didn't enjoy it. Luckily his bike is alloy. Just a few scratches, and a very slight buckle.

I noticed a few brightly coloured Longford Cycling Club ( in a kit almost identical to the LCRC kit ) joining in while the group was leaving Glengarriff. I noted the lads were ‘undocumented’ , no event numbers. Ironic that Longford where then involved in the crash minutes later. Weaving behaviour is that of inexperienced dangerous riders.
Willing to give benefit of doubt as I turned up late to start the SKT, had registered but no time to pick up the numbers.
Some one asked earlier what can be done to prevent weaving : would suggest a massive directed yelling at the weaver to hold the line, with the word dangerous thrown in .

Weaving can be a relative term. What does this mean in the case in question?

I ask because there was a lot of slower riders breaking hard on the descents, then cutting corners and leaving no room for overtaking. I myslef cut corners on the descents but I would glance over the shoulder before doing so.
