Asus router and 3 huwei mobile Internet router

I want my Asus rt-n56u router to be able to use my 3 huwei mobile Internet router as its WAN connection. Is there any way these two devices can talk to one another? if so, are there any FAQ's or docs on the subject?

If it's not possible, are there any solutions for improving the range and capacity of these little personal routers?

If you have a MiFi device then there's probably no way to directly connect to your Asus router. The old B260a and one of the newer routers (might be more?) are network devices that have a LAN port on them and you plug the LAN port on your 3G router into the WAN port of your Asus router after you have made sure they are on different subnets (leave DHCP server settings on on both).

With the MiFi devices you need to get a device thats capable of being a Wireless Client, and plug that into your router (LAN or WAN depending how you set it up). Many devices that are WiFi Access Points can also be configured as WiFi Clients so you won't see many devices that are sold specifically as WiFi Network Clients.

Avoid WiFi Range Extenders because they slow your network down but probably OK for a single client.

thanks for your excellent reply. I'll check to see if it's possible to get a mifi router from 3 that has a lan port. perhaps I could also search around and see if there is such a thing as WiFi dongle with an rj45 connection which I could tune into the 3 network, if that makes any sense!

    thanks again for your help.

You may find the simplest way to do this is with a cheap 3G router (TP-Link ones from Amazon.co.uk such as this one) and an older 3 dongle or any unlocked dongle. Not all the newer dongles work with some of the routers.

If you check the 3G router thread 3G/HSPA Routers you should find lots of info.

If you have an old Three E220 dongle lying around then you can simply plug it into one of the RT-N56U's USB ports. (I'm using the Asus's latest firmware - 3.0.0.4.360.)

(BTW, I couldn't get an E122 to work. I'm open for any suggestions!)

    Cheers,
    Brian.
