At 9 pm on sky Atlantic, unless you plan on a quick flight across the Atlantic where the episode is airing right now. You'd want to hurry if that was the case :pac: Sleep on it I'd say

Unsure about it really, they dragged Robb's death out too much and the Rains of Castamere wasn't as prominent as it should have been. No cliffhanger with the Hound and Arya too. I'd say it was great for the non book readers but for me knowing what was coming the execution was off and too drawn out. Focused too much on Robb and Cat at the wedding but that's a by-product of no buildup of the supporting characters.

Edit: was a short episode too, they could have really used the extra 10 mins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,171 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

This will definitely make the non readers think Dany is going home:pac:

Even though I knew it would happen, and I haven't even seen it yet...only working from twitter spoilers and some details from westeros.org but I'm suddenly really depressed:pac: As someone on twitter said..I'm now up for some Stoneheart and Frey butchery:P

I think they butchered it... *Pun Intended*
Seriously thought, don't think it did the book justice at all and they ended up rushing some of the other storylines too. The whole Bran/Jon scenario should've had more screentime at the very least.

  • oh god i fergot how sick that made me feel

I felt the same, after reading the book I felt a bit underwhelmed by how it happened.

But still, I can imagine non-bookreaders being in shock at it, I remember how I felt after first reading it.

I thought they done it as well as they could have. That blew me away to be honest. I do agree they could have had the Rains of Castamere playing while it was going on though. Has rekindled my hatred for the Freys and the want for vengeance! The stuff with Tulisa was pretty viscous wasn't it? The other thread is going to explode over the next day or so. I was surprised they didn't leave the cliff hanger with Ayra too.

Thought the Warg stuff was explained a lot better in this episode and the stuff up at the gift was done well.

Didn't like the Yunkai stuff. So we're not going to see the 1v1 duel? Seemed very rushed.

    RIP young wolf!

I still need to watch it tonight but I already had a peek at Twitter and some of the comments are hilarious, so many freaked out people. I'm kinda dreading seeing the episode myself but I'll just have to power through!
This GIF in particular made me chuckle- watching the RW wedding episode as a book reader with non book readers.

I've seen plenty of youtube reactions from US people, secretly filming friends/wives/boy- or girlfriends/... when the ending came :D

    Brilliant stuff.

I have it but can't watch as the kid is up and this would not be good viewing for a three year old. It would cost me a fortune in therapy :P

Looking forward to the missus's reaction later as she hasn't read the books. I have to hide my tells better than when we watched the Jamie dehanding earlier in the season. She said I was like a giddy child coming up to the deed in the episode. I'll have to control things better tonight before the final cut :)

Ok, agreed it didn't make justice to the book.... but as soon as it began....... I felt like the non readers hahaa And we get rid of Talisa too. I'm going to miss Robb :(

Not liking how they managed Arya and the Hound there.

Best Bran scene.. since he fell of the window. Also, for a moment I thought they were going to kill Ygritte there.

And definitely don't like Daario. Grey Worm, he's deadly.

If that's the duel where Strong Bewlas kills, decapitates, deficates and then wipes up with the dead mans cloak (before calling for liver and onions), that's outside Meereen.

Cheers to be honest I wasn't sure if it was Yunkai or Meereen.

The second the rains of castamere started playing the hairs on the back of my neck stood up

Is it just me or did anyone else expect Bolton to chop off Robb Starks head or at least to swing a sword at him rather than the quick stab.

Same here as soon as the Rains began to play, got shivers on that.

Poor Rickon, crying because that's the most lines he's ever had, and he won't be in it again for at least 3 seasons.

Where was Brynden during the Red Wedding in the books? Did he stay back at Riverrun?

Yeah, Jaime meets him there in AFFC.

Wow just watched it. I thought it was done so well. Michelle Fairley's acting at the end was spine chilling. That scream, and then the defeated look. The stabbing of Talisa was brutal. Where did the Blackfish go btw? Did he leave when the bedding ceremony happened?

The rest of the episode was great too. The scene with the wildlings was really well done. Finally Bran's scenes were interesting.

What annoyed me was the fact that Bran and the others weren't out on the lake. I know creating that set would be more trouble than it was worth but I just loved that from the books and how atmospheric it was with the thunder and everything but hey I guess we got the red wedding so I can't be too fussy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Liamalone

Just finished watching it and whilst not overly impressed with it I'll let them off as it was a big ask to nail it completely.

One thing I'm really disappointed in is the Arya bit at the end and no cliffhanger in that regard, that bit in the book knocked me for six after the events that preceeded it. Poor imo.

What annoyed me more was the fact that it seemed limited to the guests in the big hall.

In the book it's Robb's entire army that gets decimated by the Bolton and Frey troops, plus the Boltons who are seemingly coming to rescue Robb and his men, only to turn on them.

I've seen a bit of that too, personally I find such actions at best juvenile and at worst sociopathically creepy, verging on a Mason Verger 'I'd like a martini made from the tears of child' level of creepy......

Arya witnesses the Freys murdering loads of Robb's men outside before killing Grey Wind so I think it's assumed his whole army is decimated.

O M G! Haven't read the books but I'm coming round to the idea that I should. Can see some of the influences Robert the Bruce and Ned Stark, Little Finger and a Machiavellian Italian prince. Feel traumatised going to lie down.

He only took one or two regiments to the wedding, most of the banner men are still at Riverrun.

The reactions and subsequent speculation from the non-readers is thoroughly enjoyable to read.

Bless their little hearts, they all think the war is now over because Stannis doesn't have big enough an army and the Balon Greyjoy is a weak leader... They all reckon the Lannisters have it until Dany swoops in on her dragons... Should be interesting once the rest of the key players are introduced next year...

Also, they seem to think that episode 10 of each season always deals with the fallout of episode 9, but nothing else major seems to happen. Everyone else fairly confident that we're getting the fall of Joffrey next week? Those events happened in quick succession in the book, so I suspect it'll be covered next week.

And some poor soul thinks that it'll be revealed very soon (now that Robb is dead) about Bran and Rickon being alive... Hahahahahaha... That's funny.

Again, different from the book where his entire army is destroyed, bar the Boltons and Karstarks who aren't loyal to him anyway.

Speechless! Done very well i must say particularly with it starting with Tulisa. They didn't even get a final goodbye.

Part of me did want Robb to walk out, i wanted to see Grey Wind escape. Possibly one of the most cold, brutal betrayals seen on television. Even though I knew it was coming, it just leaves you tingling.

Even with the Red Wedding rest of the story lines were great too! Jon kicking ass!

    No Joffery though, pity!

    Not sure if it's a spoiler, it's a theory about Jeyne/Talisa.
Does this episode put to bed the theories about Jeyne/Talisa being alive with Robb's heir in the books? I'd say it does.

More theory talk, spoilered just in case!
Probably, although the show has already killed off/written out a few characters who may be important in the books later and as the show goes on the storylines diverge more and more from the books so I wouldn't say so 100%. I expect the show to run into difficulty making the plotline work when it comes to the last 3 books.

I hated the Talisa replacing Jeyne thing anyway thought it was really stupid and unnecessary, would have much preferred Jeyne Westerling, so was kinda glad to see her killed. Also puts to bed the theories going around that Talisa was a Lannister spy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

I think they did it good with Talisa, in the books Jeyne was supposedly with Robb's child but she never attended the wedding. However, Jeyne's mother gave her potions that would kill off any pregnancy, since she was in secret negotiations with Tywin. They managed to kill off a few things with this scene:

    1. The supposed spying for the Lannisters
    2. The pregnancy

I dont think the show will run into any difficulty. George is working with HBO - its far more likely that he has just set it up with HBO in such a way to keep the important stuff and get rid of the rest.

Yeah I was never really on board with that replacement either. Whats going to happen when it comes to Cersei's memories of Maggi the Frog? Will she just be some unrelated person? Talisa could still have been a Lannister spy but they had to kill her because she was pregnant with Robb Starks child. But it does pretty much mean that Jeyne Westerling holds no later importance in the books.

I kind of feel the tv show is giving too much away in terms of who is important and who isnt later for book readers. I do wish George would hurry up and finish the series!

Very impressed with Arya and the Hound. Someday Im going to stick a sword through your eye and out through the back of your skull - excellent!

Although I loved how they showed Bran going into Hodor, I would have liked if they had set that scene better with the lake and Queenscrown. I loved how atmospheric it was in the books.

Sorry to see Orell go, thought he looked amazing, and I like the actor. Thought Tormund Giantsbane looked fantastic running along ready to chop heads!

No reason they can't keep him and Osha in it for a few scenes each season. We can thus see first hand how he gets to where we are told he is in ADWD, rather than be told via third party. Also gives the producers a chance to improvise.

Just had a look at the book and the cliffhanger line is "His axe took her in the back of the head".
I think this works better in written form than visual form, if they'd televised this it would be obvious straightaway that he'd hit her with the wooden end and not particularly hard either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,576 ✭✭✭Paddy Cow

They probably changed Jeyne to Talisa because of budget restraints. It was easier to write her onto the battlefield of one of Robbs most important wins, than go off on a random side plot that would take up valuable air time and money. It works for the show that she got killed off as she has no real value to add right now. Even if she did give birth to a healthy son and managed to get to safety, it would be 20 years before the child would be in any position to make a claim on Winterfell and God knows what's going to happen between now and then.

I never understood the theory that she was a spy. No one could have forseen that Robb would take such a shine to her that he would risk the war by breaking his oath to Walder Frey.

I wonder if they will keep to the books and have
Jeyne Poole pretend to be Arya and marry her off to Ramsay Bolton. Jeyne featured quite a lot in the books at King's Landing as Sansa's friend but she wasn't in the show. I don't think she was even mentioned after the battle.

It's been ages since I read the books so I can't remember why the Hound took her. She is of little value to him now that the Starks are effectively destroyed. He has well and truely burned his bridges with the Lannisters so can't return her to King's Landing. Did he simply have a moment of humanity where he decided to save her?
