Samsung Ativ S Sale

Seems as the ever so "popular" Windows version of the S4 is on sale for 286 Euro on expansys.

Great phone for the money. Big screen, large battery, good camera and memory card slot to add to that 16GB internal memory. Not a bad deal, would be getting this if I didn't pick up an s4 last week.

    Any feedback on this phone?

I've ordered a Nexus 4 but could be ages away. A mate is coming from London on Friday and if I order by 4 today he could have it to me by friday.

It's probably one of the best Windows phones that was ignored. Look up pocketnow.com they had a good review and an after the buzz review.

No one ever really bought it cause it never came out here and beside the Lumia 920 It looked like the most boring phone in the world.

In terms of hardware it's great anyway.

+1 to this.. I have them for staff in work and they're great phones.

I'd actually class them as better than the 920 (have both beside me here). Screen is brighter/bigger, removable battery, expandable SD etc
I don't actually understand all the "love" for the 920 at all other than "ooh it comes in fancy colors" but that's me :)

920 has a better camera thats mainly it.

I have one of these and I love it. I chose it over the Nokia because it is thinner, lighter, better and bigger screen and has a removable battery.

From a hardware point of view the biggest downside is the screen is larger than other phones but the resolution isn't. So everything is just bigger, rather than there being more on the screen.

I took this photo with it's camera (though obviously I've resized)

Just ordered it, but got another €10 off using Flubit.com. Total was just under €290! :) That plus the €10 deal from "48" = Me being very happy!

This phone is going for €249.90 on eBay with the Price-Guard seller.

    Have you used them?

For the price it's very tempting, especially since you can install Nokia Drive and use offline gps for free.

I think a lot of people used them when the Lumia 800 was on sale.

Generally didn't hear any complaints. If you have issues though don't be expecting to go to them, Nokia or phone menders is your repair point.

It is a good offer though. I'd say if it hit the 200 mark it would fly out

yeah, I have the LG e900 on WP7.8 which a lot of people here in boards got via bargain alerts a couple of years back.
Best phone I've ever owned! So good, that I'll hang off getting the Ativ for a while yet!

I got the ativ s just 5 min ago from them. There was no shipping included so had to contact the seller.

Ebay email and their own was in German. I haven't payed for it yet anyway.

I had the Optimus 7, but this phone is miles ahead. It really is a massive improvement!

Found a nice case for it finally, €11 delivered:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NILLKIN-Hard-Cover-Back-Case-for-Samsung-I8750-ATIV-S-LCD-Film-/251269870396?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=550235687859&hash=item3a80d9f33c

Any links for the Price-Guard.de sale? I bought three Optimus 7's off them. I had to return one twice and there was no problem from a customer service point of view.

Was 42 sold an hour or so ago, 44 sold now. They're going quick enough!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,034 ✭✭✭mad muffin

How do you pay them though? There is no shipping info so ebay won't let the transaction go through. You need to contact the seller and they haven't gotten back.

Rooting through the transaction there is a button "provide more details"

There it has the total with shipping of €14.90

No option to pay with PayPal only direct bank lodgement. I don't understand why shipping didnt come up in the initial transaction?

I'll send them another message to send me a PayPal link with shipping. See what happens.

You could same shipping charge of €14 €10 more for the phone

Says delivery is 7-21 days :( which means they use dhl deutsche post:mad:

I'd say its the same for their ebay listing.

Got an invoice this morning with PayPal payment.

€14.90 with dhl paket international , which is what I feared :(

Says should be delivered by next Thursday. I hope it does as I'm off on holidays in three weeks.

The last time I ordered something that was delivered through deutsche post, it took weeks after the estimated date of arrival.

Still €254 delivered is an incredible price. I can sell my iPhone 5 and still profit.:pac:

Has anyone here bought it from price-guard?

God they are slow. Still awaiting shipping confirmation :(

Really takes the shine off a new purchase :o

    Finally got shipping/tracking.:D

They actually initiated shipping yesterday afternoon.

    Gone up to €245.90 now.

They've sold quite a lot in the last couple of days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,034 ✭✭✭mad muffin

    It came in yesterday morning.

    Aaaaaaand.

It's defective :( my sim will only go in half way. I suspect the spring mechanism is broken

Also the supplied charger is not the Samsung one but a cheap generic one with the cord attached to it, it feels lighter than the phones battery cover.

Also the original void stickers had been removed at some point and replaced with generic ones. And the protective film was removed from the battery cover. It must have been removed some time ago as it had lost any adhesion is caked in dust.

Contacted Price-Guard straight away but as yet have received no reply. I'll give them till tomorrow and then open a PayPal dispute.

What a royal pain in the behind, no wonder they are so cheap.

    Well good luck

    Thanks :(

Next time i'll stick to Amazon. If there are any problems you get instant reply and they try to do everything they can to help.

Also the language barrier doesn't help.

Requested the message in English and they sent me a Google translated one, haha :pac:

Anyway, it's sent back now. Lets hope for a satisfactory out come.

By the way they've reduced the price or €229 :pac:

Have 2 ATIV S' in the house now. One from price-guard (where I have previously ordered 3 LG Optimus 7's) and one from Expansys.

There is a difference between the two shops. The shítty charger only comes with the price-guard one. The guarantee stickers were different and the box was pretty dirty. I had problems with two of the three phones from Price-guard in the past, but both were replaces relatively easily. We haven't had any problem with the ATIV S as of yet, but I've a feeling these ones are refurbs.

The one from Expansys was brand new with a British/Irish Samsung charger. No doubt about it.

I also received this case today, feels lovely and would recommend it!

Yeah the box was pretty dirty. How did you go about exchange? How was the communication/how did you communicate?

The ebay listing says new nowhere does it say referb. It did cross my mind after my sim wouldn't go in and the generic charger/original void stickers removed, that the phone might be a referb.

It's down to €268.72 on expansys.

This is what it says on the listing.

NEU & OVP, OHNE BRANDING, OHNE VERTRAG, OHNE SIMLOCK!

NEW & SEALED, NO BRANDING, NO CONTRACT, NO SIMLOCK!

    Definitely wasn't sealed.

I had to communicate through German, and paid postage from Ireland to Germany, but they paid the other way.

I'm sure you know what you're doing, but you're using a micro-sim right?

Yeah micro sim. It would just go in half way. I suspect the spring mechanism inside the tray is broken.

Did they let you know they got your phone and when they where sending out a new one?

It must be two years since I sent them back, I can't remember. I imagine they would.

Have mine a few months now, bought it a few weeks before the price drop. :(
Love this phone though. Had a HTC HD7 before this. Its quite big, a lot of people think its a bit too big but I've gotten used to it now. The display is cracking on it, and the battery lasts twice as long as my HTC did.
Would definitely recommend this phone to anyone.

Rub salt into my wounds why don't ya :P

Didn't even bother to remove the protective film in the screen or the chrome surround.

I did have a quick look at the screen though and it didn't have that green/blue tint that Nokia AMOLED screens have.

I wonder what's up with that. Normally they are prompt. I suppose after you deal with Amazon or Apple, anything else seems sub par.

Min'es been in shipping soon on Amazon.de (bought through Amazon so I was led to believe) since July 3rd

    My guess is it's through a 3rd party - I better not get a dirty box/refurb.

Should say in the email who's it through, no?

My return arrived back to Price-Guard on Friday afternoon (anpost delivery email).

I'm hoping to hear from Price-Guard in the coming week.

It says through Amazon but it's the length of time stuck at 'shipping soon' has raised my suspicions! (Was in stock according to Amazon)
