There's a small article on page 8 of today's Indo saying Thomson will do their pilot conversion training on the 787 over three weeks next month at Shannon.

Can't find it online but here's yesterday's Examiner article that Google spewed up; http://bit.ly/115ovd0.

Read that alright. It's meant to do a number of touch and gos in EINN. Would love to see it in the metal (or CFRP!)

It will be in Shannon over a three week period. I have read elsewhere that 5 training flights are planned at Shannon. Thomson will start Line Training at Shannon from 04 June.

Spotted an a380 at 37,000 ft yesterday on its way to Abu Dhabi from JFK! First time seeing one in the metal (that I know of), although couldn't make out too many details...

    That livery is lovely.

I thought the Dreamliner was going to be based at Shannon for three weeks, but must be mistaken and she will just be popping in and out over the next three weeks. Saw on FR24 she was taking off from Manchester this morning at about 09.00.

It is coming into Shannon again today coming from Prestwick will be here around ten to two and leaving a half hour later!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭vulcan57

How many of them do they have? I have found two, G-TUIA and G-TUIB that I have been tracking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭vulcan57

Looks like G-TUIB ( TOM 952) is heading for prestwick so presumably that's the one that will be in Shannon today.

Looks like it's heading to EINN. Descending now and just passed Kinnegad in Meath.

I was walking through Galway this afternoon and saw a plane overhead, unusual for Galway. Could it have been a dreamliner?

TOM953 (787) took from Shannon today around midday and has landed in Mamchester.

Spotted it descending a few minutes ago (13:45 ish) on Flight Radar, thought it was heading off the West coast to come back to Shannon, then he "vanished" at about 5000 ft. Presume they turned off a transponder or something?

    Ninja edit: he's back!

think there is a black spot around SNN, everything seems to disappear once it drops down for approach just from watching FR24

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

did it land in Shannon? looks like it descended and then took off again, possibly just some training exercise. went over South Dublin a few minutes back and now is over the Irish see. assume its heading to manchester or somewhere like that.

I don't think so, I was watching it at lunch time haven't looked since, but it looked like it was heading back east at about 3000ft near Limerick, so probably not.

Just spotted this on FR and came on to post. Ozzy beat me to it.

Descending at ~2000 ft per minute. Heading into Shannon ???

Holding altitude at FL250. Looks like it's heading for Shannon alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭St. Leibowitz

Back in the descent now over Naas. FL210 at 1500 ft /min.

    Callsign is TOM957 btw.

I had a look through the binoculars. It couldn't have been anymore directly overhead. I couldn't even see the tail.

Hopefully will get a closer look soon.

Except Saudia hasn't ordered the 787 yet? Also, the 787 appears longer than the -8.

But the tail definitely looks like Saudia. Unless Thomson leased it out to Saudia for the Hadj?

what exactly was involved, how you get signed up for it etc etc?

what does proving flight mean also?

It was the first flight with a full load of passengers, as its due to go into full service very shortly. This was a flight for the staff to see the plane and experience it :) I was very lucky to be one of those who were able to go on it.
