Mag Safe connector acting up

Hi,

I have an early 2011 MBP and recently i have noticed that my power cord isn't always working, and i often need to jiggle the wire in order to get the light to come on and charge the laptop itself.

In some cases i need to keep prop the wire up in a certain position in order for it to work.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything i can do or is the wire just on the way out and needs replacing?

Sounds like you need to replace the adapter, OP. Do you take care of it or does it get a lot of wear and tear?

This happens to me a lot too. Unplug and scrap the terminals with an opened paper clip to get any grime off, even if you can't see any, there is!! works for me every time.

It gets a regular amount of wear and tear i reckon, laptop is either plugged in on the coffee table or else on the bed - when it is plugged in. When its not plugged in the wire gets wrapped up around the power block and is left in a drawer, so nothing out of the ordinary.


@Yer Man - I cleaned the connectors with a cotton bud and the pointy bit from the lid of a pen. A definite improvement!! It now works fine when plugged in with the wire facing out towards the back so that should keep me going for a while at least.

This is called strain releif - apple will replace for free -even outside warranty - charger should last longer than 2 years

In regards to replacing the adapter under strain relief:

Now this article says US only but I believe like EurasianBadger said, it should be covered by applecare, give them a call on 1850 94 61 91 and they will investigate.

Really? Wish I had've known that before I forked out €90 on a new charger. Mine was just over a year at the time.

officially just in the US but apple here honour the programme as it seems to be a known issue. Different type of interface on new chargers too
