If you were given 10k and you and your other half were told you could go anywhere in the world, apart from oz as you'd been there already, where would you go and what would you do?

Vietnam!! Hanoi, Hoi An & Ho Chi Minh City. Done it. Can't wait to go back. All the charm of Thailand without the sleaze.

A cruise in Antarctica would be high on the list as would a luxury Safari in Africa. A week in Bora Bora that Drunkmonkey mentioned also sounds beautiful.

SE Asia or South America. Did SE Asia on a similar budget, did the 4 bordering countries with flights in between, nice hotels, Halong Bay cruise and luxury stay on Koh Phi Phi. All A+!

Would like to go to S America next time, do the Inca trail, go to Cancun, and trek a jungle.

Ya, Cancun is coming high on the list. It's our honeymoon budget. We'll both be 30, jesus that sounds old, and the better half would like a bit of luxury while i'd also like to engage in a few water sports. For the time of year Cancun is coming to the forefront at the moment, a couple of the all-inclusive packages; then maybe go back through the states. We've been to Chicago before and I've been to New York a while ago but we'd both love to go back and maybe do a bit of travelling up the east coast or something. Nothing too glamorious for that end.

Figuring we'll spend about 5-6k on Mexico and leave ourselves about 4k for the states. It's an awful lot of money to us and we're saving extremely hard to put the cash together, but f**k it, life's too short!!

Cancun and Vietnam are very goo, although you shouldn't be anywhere near €10k for 2 weeks all inclusive. Myself and the missus going this year and it's bout €1800 each 4*.

We're thinking of 2weeks all in in Cancun, plus flights and the 2weeks in the states plus flights..

May I ask where you're staying in Cancun and your details, just to compare. Sorry if I'm being pedantic but I've a bit of ocd when it comes to booking things on line and stuff..

Booked the hotel on trivago.com and the flights via kayak.com

Hotel (Dreams Cancun) worked out at €1200 each, flights bout €800 each

The classic choice (for Americans at least, my wife and I included) is Hawaii. Absolutely stunning beaches, volcano backdrop, ideal weather, fresh tropical foods, and endless adventurous activities. You have several islands to choose from (pick two for the ultimate combination).

From my experience they don't tend to go "all inclusive" but in my opinion that is a less than stellar option for a honeymoon. For example in Cancun I would expect the food quality to vary (plus you can't drink the water so you are at risk of stomach problems). Plus won't be able to enjoy that special romantic 5-star meal on your honeymoon.

In Hawaii you can hire a convertible sports car and drive to beaches, waterfalls, and mountains in safety and comfort.

Big thanks to Corkbah and ScottSF for your pms, very much appreciated.

Now, I've think I've come to a happy medium, the only thing is cash!!

    Thinking:
    New York: 4nts
La - Phoenix - Vegas - Grand Canyon - San Fran - La (road trip obviously) 20nts .Its online here for 15nts but it's a bit rushed:http://www.americansky.ie/fly-drive-self-drive/self-drive-the-west-tour#openpricing
Cancun: Excellence Playa Majeures All in: 7 nts...
    Home..

Now if anyone can get that for me for under 10k (including spending money and flights of course), the beers are on me;)!!

    What ya reckon?

4 nights in NYC, a week in Cancun, plus 20 nights driving around western US! I didn't realize you had so much time off. You do realize that is a crazy amount of driving! Have you mapped it online to see for yourself? Do you really want to spend so much of your time in a car as opposed to enjoying those places you really want to visit? There is a ton to see and do around SF and LA.

For me I would cut out the Arizona/Grand Canyon portion and stick with CA/Vegas since you already have Yosemite plus with Palm Springs you get to see Death Valley plus Joshua Tree National Park as well. You also might want to take your time driving up the coast from southern to northern California and not rush it on the boring freeway. Food and drinks add up quickly (more tipping required too) and save money for gambling, Vegas show tickets, and various activities and entry fees along the way.

I really don't think it can be done for $10K unless you want to sleep in your car :)

Ya, I made it up last night for around €12k, including the lot. Well we could go LA to vegas and then do the loop up to San Fran and down, cutting out phoenix (not too pushed anyway to be honest). Time off isn't the problem, saving for this and the wedding is the thing. If we book Cancun now, or soon, we save ourselves over a grand on the resort in question with an excellence room (concierge type)! That's a cut back straight away, but to be honest, it's NYC that's the big spender, accommodation wise and spending money. Again, early booking may save us a few pound; pitched the idea to the better half last night and we both agreed to eat beans on toast for the next 12mths..

For that money you could go here: http://www.kuramathi.com/guestvillas/waterjacuzzi.html

    All inclusive.

I'd go back at the drop of a hat.

St. Lucia. Go for the honeymoon.

And you'll still have enough money to go back twice more.
Lovely place. You can have any type of holiday you want.

Some time around the Galapagos, Patagonia or a tour around the Falklands/South Georgia/Antartica

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭80s Child

Cheers for the replies folks, much appreciated!

We've put Asia on the back burmer for now as we're thinking of hitting Thailand the following year.

St. Lucia is beautiful, we may still consider it for our final week.

No way I'd get the better half around the Galapagos, more chance of Darwin going again!

My aforementioned itinerary is probably going to be our foundation, whether we can do it all for our budget, I'm not sure, might have to sell a kidney, could be worth it though!

Ha.. I can imagine the conversation, 'Darling, you know how you really want to go to NYC, well, that's gonna cost you a kidney......no big deal, you have another one..what sacrifice am I making??? Babe, we're not getting the convertible in LA, you know how hard that is for me...'... Annulment!

Again, just like previous thread, have to put a shout in for Grand Cayman, seven mile beach is THE most amazing beach ever. Its expensive but worth every penny.

Now, one more thrown up by a friend who's living in Dubai and was travelling recently: Tanzania and Zanzibar...

A week in Tanzania on Safari and another week in Zanzibar on the beach or a little more; looking into this at the minute and its caught both of our attentions. Anyone been or something similar??

I did a 'participation' safari trip to kenya & tanzania two yrs ago. There was a couple on the trip who were doing it as part of their honeymoon and then going else, somewhere with some more luxury than tents and thin mattresses! I think it would make a great honeymoon, but i'd look at a lodge style trip for a bit more comfort.
