Given its not that high BHP (306BHP) about 168mph (270kph) absolutely tops. You need to absolutely pile on performance to get much more.

I guessed about that. Cheers. Have a BMW 325ci but bored with it now, nearly bought a b4 but found out the top speed was a terrible 180kph. Tested a cl 55 a few weeks ago but need robbing a bank for that. Thanks again

You are buying a car based on the top speed ? Cool.

Do you really want to go quicker than 168mph though? Autobahn?

A Legacy B4? Guys here are claiming 270kph delimited, though I wonder. Lot more than 180kph though:

Because the police are as stupid as most of the people on here. I only asked a question and get all this ****. How I drive is up to me.

If you were not meant to drive that fast they why no limit all cars to 80mph? I'm
Not saying I drive around like Schumacher but its nice to get moving if you have a clear road. I can bet that 90% of crashes that involve someone doing 100+mph,there was an idiot going 60 in the fast lane that was the real blame or someone pulling out to overtake a car and not checking a mirror!

Don't think anyone has really given you much shyte.

I do think its insane picking a car based on top speed though. How it gets there is more important.

Probably because it's an idiotic question in context!

I think someone who says doing 155+ mph is a must once a month on public roads is stupid.

Doing anything more than ~50% over the limit, in Ireland, is flat stupidity. The roads arn't long enough, straight enough or wide enough for anything more to be done safely. Its a far cry from a 3 lane highway in the US or Germany where at least you have 'somewhere to go' if you need to.

Some sections of M6 between Athlone and Galway are much flatter, straighter and with much better surface than many motorways in Germany where no speed limit applies.

Some stretches of the M7 would appear to be safe enough also.

Biggest obstacle I assume are drivers pulling into the overtaking lane in front of you.

Obviously I've never broken the speed limit*

Gearing is more important than BHP when it comes to top speed. My car has 2XXBHP (the X's are secret ;)) and weighs in at 920kg and will top out at just over 130mph

It can be geared for 155mph handily enough without touching power

Last time I travelled from Dublin to Galway about 3 in the morning on Sunday, I don't think I met more than 5 cars all together.
So you can always slow down when you encounter any other vehicle.

Out of curiosity elitefocus37, ever had a near miss or have you ever being pulled by an garda siochana?

At night? How do you know it's clear at that speed? Radar?

Thats the problem. If your coming at say 160+, a driver is going to (rightfully) assume your doing around 120. So they'll probably miscalculate if they go for an overtake. At the speed involved, most people don't have the skills to notice that and correct.

Going at night again has its dangers given the livestock either side of the M7 however unlikely the occurrence can be.

I'm all for speed when its planned and measures are taken to prevent accidents. But no one has the right to decide to knowingly speed and endanger others because chances are your going to involve someone else if something goes wrong.
