Saw on Twitter that there's a new bar/restaurant opening specializing in craft and world beers.

Anyone know any more about this?

Have you a link to the tweet? I've been searching and I can't find it so far.

Only places I can think of would be Riddlers or the Bitter End/Foxys?

Great name for a bar, and I always loved the concept of craft bars.

All hail the Fox I say. :D

You'd think so but I know nothing. :D

I'm only back in the door from a holiday so learning about this now. AFAIK the guy from the Chicken went off to Dublin but that may have changed.

I did know a guy who looked at Foxys but it was too big but if it's Denmark Street then maybe it's Whelans. Play on the word Foxy.

Don't forget Smyths & The Icon. Plenty of animals go there

    Don't forget the spotted dog.

I like to see more decent pubs opening, with decent beer, but If it is the Whelans bar, that building seems to be a magnet for, scrotes.

If they police the door properly, it could be a great bar. If they take the same lax attitude that the previous incarnations had, then I for one will be staying away from it.

That place was gutted in the spring. The plaque from the front wall is gone too. Looks like it's no longer going to be used as a bar.

see, animal names everywhere! Great to see new pubs opening but a bit of imagination wouldn't go astray when naming them ( imo)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,730 ✭✭✭europa11

    The Moose :)

...and now closed for a while, but The Pike Inn was a big enough draw in it's day.

Back on topic though, I presume is it a given that whatever craft beer pub might be opening hopes to replicate say The Porterhouse in Dublin? i.e., no Guinness/Bud/Carlsberg taps whatsoever?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 878 ✭✭✭rainbowdash

pushing it a small bit but rashers and small claws might make the list:D

I think this name is probably meant as more of a play on "craft beer".

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of a range they do anyway. 8 Degrees, Trouble Brewing, Corca Dhuibhne, Carlow Brewing Co and some of the Porterhouse range would be nice for Irish produce.

Quite. Or, say, the Bull and Castle in Dublin — popped in last month just for a quick glass, but spent all evening there with tasting trays.

They do 30 different craft beers mostly irish and constantly changing (Tom Creans, 8 Degrees, o haras, Trouble brewing, Dungarvan etc) in Michael Flannerys Pub across from Icon and have Frannziskanner, Leffe, etc all on Tap. I would say they have one of the largest craft beer selections and a nice clientelle which as Source said is important.

Try the Beers of the World tray. 4 x 250ml different craft draught beers for €5. It's a superb little place and they have a massive Whiskey collection if that's your thing.

I think this is the only pub in Limerick serving it. Savage bar BTW. It reminds me of Dick Macks in Dingle

Is Michael Flannerys a fake Orish pub or part of the big Flannerys

Those guys do nice French beer: http://www.brasseurs-gayant.com/en/, but even the English part of their website seems to be in French for some reason :-p.
I think I've already seen La Goudale somewhere in Ireland, but I have good (but blurred...) memories of La Biere du Demon from my student years.
Non French speakers can answer OUI to the first question and then click NOS MARQUES then TOUTES NOS MARQUES in the menu.

If this Crafty Fox is going to be part of Whelans or run by them, ye'll only need the one craft beer lads - TROUBLE BREWING

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,099 ✭✭✭Louche Lad

I find that craft beer places have quite a different atmosphere to other pubs and bars. I'm thinking mainly of London, where pubs that specialise in craft beer and real ale never have any trouble.

Of course, with any new trend such as the craft beer boom there are going to be people jumping on the bandwagon for what they think is a quick buck. I do hope the Crafty Fox works out OK.

It used to be called McDaids prior to Whelan's, on Denmark Street opposite St Michael's church.

Met owner(s) today. Going to be HEAVY into Craft Beers. Not by some half arsed attempt either. Sounds like it's going to be good.
