The flagship event of the European Tour deserves it's own thread. Plenty of Irish interest in this with 11 players in all, North & South.

Harrington is taking a week off as he stated a 4th tournament in a row would have been too much given the state of his game.

Plenty of off course chatter with Sergio's fried chicken remarks and Rory's split from his management company. My selection is Branden Grace.

Shaping up to be a great tournament, its nice to see a "home" event on the Euro Tour with such a good participation rate.

Fair play to the ageless Miguel for reaching his 600th ET event!

and he can still play some damn good golf.

did they just say McIlroy found his ball at the 18th and chipped it out? Thought that was OOB on the left?

He turns 50 next year but apparently has no intention of playing the seniors tour yet. Still competitive on the regular tour and wouldn't put it past him to win again in his 50s.

Nice round today by Lowry -2. Clarke and McIlroy gone backwards.

5 bogeys in the last 6 holes for McIlroy :)

Bad finish for G-Mac, Darren Clarke and Rory although I reckon par today is +1 or so!

Must be said that Paul McGinley had a great round, 1 birdie, 17 pars!!

Watching Miguel whilst having John E Morgan commentating would get you almost horizontal.
Really hope Sky give him a bit more work

Surely we can have some claim on tournament leader Mikko Ilonen, he's been playing some solid stuff this year.

Some round of golf there today - everytime they show a player's scorecard there's a helluva lot of blue for bogey on it so for McGinley to get around without a dropped shot is something else...

1.5 hour delay due to threat of lightning according to the European tour website. Donald now +6 with one left to play.

Garcia finishes level par with a whole scatter of bogeys, birdies, an eagle and a doublebogey :)

That's why I like Sergio. He goes from the sublime to the ridiculous in the blink of an eye.

    very similar to harringtons game.

Yeah but I hate it about Harrington because I'd actually like him to win tournaments

    similar

but harrington throws in a lot more double bogeys than he throws in eagles.

Interesting sort of leaderboard, hope to see some of the bigger names make a move today. Els, Kaymar, Westwood, Colsaerts, Rose are all bunched up a couple of shots off the lead.

Poulter & Donald will both miss the cut.

Paul Casey +6 today. +4 for the tournament

Off babysitting today, so one eye on this. The commentary leaves the US coverage for dead imo. A pity Monty doesn't take up the US Tour.
Two norn irish lads on +3 outside the cut but a long way togo. McDowell looking dapper as per usual

    you like Montys commentary ?

His cardigans make me cringe. He's such a fat turd.

They'll do we'll to make the cut today.

    sarcasm filter on-

Yeah, he's the best in the business:confused:

I meant play on the Tour, put him in some deep bunker in a far off corner of the ****tiest course there and bulldoze it in while he's talking to himself about his captaincy 3 years ago.

I don't like his commentary one bit I have to say.

I was really impressed with Paul McGinley's commentary there a couple of weeks ago, thought he was brilliant.

I was impressed with his driver off the deck there on the par 4 9th:D As one commentator put it- "a seaside shot".

I love that the Boxall just said its hard to hit a snap hook with a modern fairway metal, I'll f--king show him how its done !! :D:D

And Rory just showed how it's done with a driver! That was an absolute stinker, couldn't have been more than 200 yards.

Loving the helicam/multicopter shots. They give a real insight as to lines and gradients that fixed cameras just don't pick pick up.

Lowry has really nailed the par 5's so far. 7 birdies and a par.

With 3 of the worlds top 10 missing the cut there's plenty of ranking points (And cash :)) on offer.

Something very interesting so far is how much Westwood's short game seems to have come on. I'd written him off start of year but perhaps that major might still be a possibility!

I know they were raving about that flop shot he pulled off on the 13th? 14th? but it was a great shot tbh.I smirked when I saw him line it up. He pulled it off to a tee.Kudos, that move stateside might be the trick.

Unfortunately for Lee, he seems to clam up when the pressure comes on, especially on his putting which is his achilles heel.

Tasty looking leaderboard going in to the weekend. I think Coetzee could be one to look out for. Don't discount past winner Simon Khan either, playing solid golf and a past winner. Sergio looks to be on the good chicken also. :pac:

Scrambletastic from Lowry on the first 2 holes. Hopefully that chip in will settle him down.

Westwood is the man to beat today, he's due a win here after last year.

Shane missing out on the birdie fest so far. Only going one way on todays leaderboard with par golf.

Ya disappointing so far, just dropped a shot on 6 to slip back to -5. Needs to turn it around pretty quickly. 6 shots off Westwood as it stands.

Lovely chip in from the bunker by Mannasero there.
    Hopefully he wins it.
I find Westwood very hard to root for

Just back from a lovely sun-burning day on the golf course to witness Lowry on the 17th.
    I should never have looked.

Birdie for Lowry on last. He'll be disappointed with a level par round to finish. Still has a busy week ahead.

    Hope the Italian wins it.
