Bird Sh*t on Your Car.

Still in my first year of motoring and in the last two weeks Ive noticed all the bird sh*t that lands on my car.

Washed my car yesterday and was delighted with myself only to go to sit into it this evening to find two huge lumps of the white stuff on my car. Nothing worse after a recent wash.

Just wondering how often you guys if ever remove bird excrement from your motor in between washes? Or do you wash your car very frequently?

What do you use? Currently I have a microfibre cloth and a lucozade sports bottle full of water at home to remove the evil sh*te. :D

Is it just me or do any other boardies OCD/ticked off when they notice bird sh*te on their shiny car!:pac:

Yep it's a right pita alright OP. Just use water and a cloth myself.

Out of curiosity, what colour is your car? I read somewhere that birds supposedly like to crap on red cars more.

Anyone who cares about their car hates it. Avoid parking under trees, if at all possible. And wash it off with warm water and gentle detergent as soon as possible.

As an owner of a red car, I can confirm.
I don't even bother cleaning the car anymore as I can guarantee that within 30 minutes it will have 4 or 5 bird shítes on the roof and bonnet.

My house is surrounded by trees so I have little choice, I washed it by hand over the weekend and ten minutes later there were five big nasty scutters on the boot. When I seen them, there were small rivers of brown and white running down the paintwork. Feathery feckers.

Autoglymn do special bird dropping wipes that are very handy to keep in the car. The acid in the bird poo can damage your paint work so you should try and get it off as soon as you can.

It's like they're using me for target practice this year. Motor is literally riddled with the stuff at the moment!

Just remembered one time i was heading down the country to see some friends. Arrived in the town and was drivin down a street when i noticed a huge big crow sittin on a telephone cable going across the street.

When i passed underneath he let out a poop which landed on my windscreen. Actually poop is an understatement. No word of a lie, half of my windscreen was covered in crap. Then i start retching while my girlfriend at the time was in hysterics laughing.

My Father used to maintain there was no point washing and shining the car as the birds flew around all day looking for shiny cars to dump on. Think he may have had a point.

A new research by UK’s leading car care experts, Autoglym, finds that damage is instead the results from the paint lacquer contracting upon cooling and moulding to the uneven texture of the hardened deposit.

Not that it matters but could be interesting to know.

I used to park under a tree and the amount of poop on the car was unreal, now I park across the road and have saved a small fortune on car wash products.

Acid or hardening bird droppings they are saying their bird dropping wipes are the thing to use. Must say I have to agree with them, those wipes are great once you use them straight after you have been bombed.

Don't fly very high though so minimal damage from me:D

I read somewhere that it's the shine from the roof of the car that draws them. Their instinct is to poop over water and the reflection of the sun or brightness on the roof of a car makes them think it is the flection of the sun on the water.

If you have a good coat of wax on the paint then this stuff is great at removing bird crap and keeping it clean and protected between washes:

    Available in HALFORDS.

there's birds nesting in out fascia right above where we park. one night last week i wash'ed the car in the evening. literally 8 different ****s on it at 10am the next morning. both me and dad have been up there to remove them but neiter of is have the heart to relocate/ kill them. may just wait for them to move out :( very disheartening though.

More birds have shat on my car in the last 2 days than in the previous 6 months.... and of course, it got cleaned just before that.

Maybe it's just because you wash your car more in the summer and there are more birds about in the summer. Any links to your shiny car thoery bazz?

I moved house two months ago and since then have had to wash my car 8 times. The woman next door feeds the birds and they nest in her facias. I am at breaking point here, think I just need to move! Some kind of flying ostrich type creature did it two nights ago, covered the roof and windscreen, possibly a terradactyl because there is no way in hell one ordinary little bird produced that much sh*te!

I have to clean bird crap off the car at least once a day and often 2 or 3 times per day. No doubt the neighbours probably think I am a right spare but I am not having that bird crap eat into the paintwork!

    $hit happens! That is all.

I've noticed myself that this year seems to be particularly bad for bird poop on cars. I initially thought it was because there's a couple of nests around me but I can see cars covered in it at the local shops and even driving around the city. It's got to the point where I'm bringing a bucket of water out every day or two and cleaning the bird crap off the two cars.

Was even thinking about posting the question as to why it's so bad this year in the Nature forum.

My Uncle used to have a pet peacock. You should see the sh!t outta that bird

My cars are black and we have trees around our house so every evening I find myself wiping bird-sh!t off them. Its better than leaving to bake in the sun till the weekend. I have a mitt and soak the sh!t in water and wipe with the mitt.

Good to see other people clean the sh*t off their cars regularly. Thought I'd become insane washing it off every evening :D

Swallows have nested under the eaves of the building at work, beside my window no less which they take great aim at! I don't park my car near the building but it must be on their flight path to the nest or something cos my car has been covered this week.

Or maybe they have it in for me..........

You cant win either way, it its winter the birds are gone south...but the weather is so **** that you cant keep it clean. If it summer birds **** all over it. My brother got a nice 07 A4 about a month ago, with a big dirty bird **** on it, i couldnt believe it. He came home from buying the car with a massive plonk on the side of it, then got pure thick when i told him that the sh1t would ruin the paint
