You were obviously looking at something different today, because you weren't watching the xbox reveal to think that.

Xbox is made to utilize its components to the max unlike a PC, you will need to a 1500 rig to match it.

That conference was 75% TV and sport, stuff that will only be available at launch in the US.

If anything it affirmed me wanting to move away from console gaming into PC which I plan to do sometime over the summer. Also I need a new PC anyway so may aswell throw a 200 quid video card into it.

Better games with less restrictions unless all you want is Fifa & COD. Even the PS4 looks better for gamers at the mo.

That's not true... you can watch videos on ANYTHING

That's what the Xbox One does right? Show videos?

    :P

    No way, lol.
PC Gaming still is the ultimate for gaming, imo.

I mean, the XBOX ONE looks nice and everything,
    but a lot of the so-called features like;
....Skyping while playing a game - We've been doing that for years on the PC
....Watching TV/play music while playing a game - yep, I've been doing that for a long time too, thank you very much.

The only thing I see thats different is the motion control, face recognition and voice activation.
They might be cool, but are they going to be that useful in a typical household?

And no news on a price?
I'm pretty sure it's going to be pretty expensive.

I think aesthetically and as a "thing that will be under your telly", it's quite nice, but it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

However, today's reveal only cemented the idea that PC gaming is where it's at for me.

Lol, the GPU is going to be on the CPU Chip. That's like a low budget PC.

You know what lads i think ill switch to the new Xbox.

This whole playing games at 1440p60 is getting tiresome 1080p30 is far better as i like my eyeballs crusty after an hour of playing

    also who needs
    mods
    faster loading games
    a functional web browser
    a host of chat clients
    a limitless supply of content
gaming communities that are not pond scum
not have social feature shoved down my throat
    cheaper games
    an open system
    a ton of indie games

when you can have a console that looks like a VCR* and has no media features that work in europe

*I actually like the look of the console and even though it looks like a VCR it doesnt look like a george forman

+1. The PS4 and One reveal has just influenced me more to focus on PC. I might also buy a Wii U for its exclusives. PC has everything the PS4 and One will have (most of it anyway) and will always be ahead of the game.

the great news is that now that the architecture is so similar for all systems japanese developers may start making PC ports given the success of Dark souls

the only part that pulls me to consoles is the exclusive content and arguably better/easier online gameplay. It didn't look too bad for what it was, people have already decided they hate Kinect so youre never getting anywhere with that as your main feature

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Sure didn't Ubisoft say they're shifting focus towards PC gaming for next gen?

when you can play the likes of BF3 on 2560x1440 you never go back

Well the reveal has me considering a dedicated gaming PC now, funny how things work out.

tbh Forza is the only game on the One (**** name) that doesnt have a equal on pc (im not including iracing etc) everthing else has an alternative that is better on pc imo

PS4/Wii U have better exclusives solely because of Japanese developers and that grip will loosen as they need to make more money

if they have that and a cheesy 80's electronics ad with colouring similar to blood dragon

    i will buy one :pac:

I have a 360 and a PS3. By the looks of it i doubt ill be investing in either new offerings by Sony and Microsoft. They are too focused on being more of a media centre and having more bells and whistles than actually being top line gaming machines. Ordered a new PC recently and plan on using it for gaming in future.

Ouya is the only console right now that intrests me :)

Quite the opposite. Console games are limited by the same hardware for the life of the console, whereas PC games can keep evolving to match new hardware.

You really posted this in the wrong forum :)

I'll never buy another console again. Microsoft's monthly fee to play games online left a sour taste in my mouth.

That's what Bill Gates ball sack tastes like.

On another note, seeing that both next gen consoles are AMD cpu powered, will we see more AMD optimized experiences on the PC as a result? Could the Intel-AMD gap be narrowed from this?

That is a very very good point.

I'm more interested to see what happens with PhysX now, to be honest. Hopefully it (finally) leads to mainstream physics adoption in games. With eight CPU cores to go round, they've got no freakin' excuse.

    PhysX on Amd gpus?

Yeah, NVIDIA have enabled it for console GPUs.

Is that confirmed, I though it was just an Physx SDK for PS4 they announced? Which doesn't necessarily mean the GPU accelerated features will be supported (Although it could).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Point, it's the SDK only. Even so, it's a step forward. If developers have a single physics solution that will work for the two main consoles as well as ~50% of the PC gaming market, you'd think that's what they'd go with. Even if it's CPU-only on consoles, I'd assume NVIDIA can offload PhysX calculations to the GPU via drivers for PC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

Nvidia wont give up physX without getting paid out in every game then..

Also, incase you missed it, a recap of the launch:

Thats pretty much the situation as it stands though, the core CPU based physx SDK is already available and widely in many multi platform games, all I see that really changed is that one more console has been added to the support list for the SDK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Do consoles at present actually use the PhysX SDK though? I thought the vast majority of games were using Havok type stuff.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

According to Kinect program manager Scott Evans, Microsoft plans on bringing the new Kinect to PC. "We will bring this to PC," he told us. "We will have more information soon."

    Hurray.

Probably not as many as Havok, but loads of game already use CPU Physx, although you never really hear about it unless they are also using advanced GPU accelerated effects.

As I understand it the main barrier to more substantial GPU physics is the overhead of copying all that data back and forth between the CPU and GPU. So while in theory an APU with a fully unified memory controller like the PS4 offers much more scope for increasing the range of hardware accelerated physics beyond special effects ( soft body physics that don't really affect gameplay), but since AMD are the only company that currently manufacture such hardware, I find it hard to see the incentive for NVidia to target APU specific enhancements.

The XBox One looks incredible for a sitting room. If you want to amalgamate everything into one box, go for it. I'll buy one as I enjoy the odd xbox exclusive title (ones that are often ported horrifically to PC) and the combination of TV means it'll suit my needs.

Sell my gaming rig though? You're having a laugh.

Actually i started playing FIFA on PC recently over XBox and less lag, less assholes, faster loading times and just a better experience on the PC.
