ETA 13:52 according to flightradar24. Just north of St. John's.

    Callsign is ADB2918

Anytime the antanov aircraft have been to Shannon in the past they have always been parked down by the tower, where omni park/load their aircraft.

The last time it was here it was parked right along the fence, so you could great a great look at the side from the empty long term (4?), and you could get a nose on view from just in front of the omni offices.

Typical, i'm not working today or tomorrow so I won't get to see it!

Just read this on airliners.net. Must check that documentary out. Anyone know offhand if the record has been beaten?
The AN225 delivered a IE 201 Class locomotive into SNN from Canada, circa late 90s for Irish Rail. They weigh 112 tonnes. It can be seen on the AN225 documentary on discovery / nat geo. Its was the record back then, not sure if it has been beaten.

    Edit... Number two!
Biggest and heaviest would once again be drilling equipment pieces closely followed by the railway engine #201 for Irish Rail lifted from Canada to Ireland by AN-124 and grossing 112 tonnes, with a length of 20.9 metres a height of 4.02 metres and a width of 2.75 metres

It was a 124 that delivered the loco. It landed in Dublin airport and it was 1994.

Great to see for the spotters who will make it, take off should be impressive if it's leaving again full. 6 streaks of black smoke across the Shannon. Makes a change from Aughinish blackening the sky!!

Probably no way of knowing what it is transporting unless we have an insider on here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRAP I'd guess its transporting a couple of these... or a couple of wind turbine hubs maybe. Or maybe I have no clue but I like guessing.

All rhe time I spend at home and it's the one time I'm in Dublin I'm going to miss it. I'm off tomorrow I would love to just drive down just to see it.

Is that ETA from flightglobal in UTC?

Was flying from Dublin to Baltimore in 2004 (I think) and we stopped in Shannon. The Antonov 225 took off while we were there. It's an amazing sight watching it.

    That's correct.

The An-225 does hold the absolute record for greatest payload carried (to an altitude of 2,000 m) of 253,820 kg, set in 2001. It also holds the record for the largest commercial payload - 247,000 kg - set in 2004.

    ...
    From Wikipedia
On 11 August 2009, the heaviest single cargo item ever sent via air freight was loaded onto the Antonov 225. At 16.23 metres (53.2 ft) long and 4.27 metres (14.0 ft) wide, the consignment–a generator for a gas power plant in Armenia and its loading frame–weighed in at a record 189 tonnes (420,000 lb)

Combat Aircraft last month (maybe 2 months ago) had an feature on the 2 Antonov's. They only use the AN-225 1-2 times a month, so any talk of building the 2nd is nonsense. The article those however say that there is a need to restart the AN-124 production line with an updated version, however they are waiting for a Russian airforce request to enable the restart. With military/govt backing there could then offer 40-60 frames to civilian operators.

First time I have ever seen an F5 thread in this forum.....
You missed the windshear/go around thread on April 17th then.....it was like a twitter feed!

It was quite a sight! Looked incredible on final approach and landed. It has parked on one of the taxiways a good distance from any hangers or the terminal

This post suggests the cargo is fodder. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=84718409&postcount=33

Starting at around €2m a flight it is certainly not cattle fodder.

The return on hiring it must be justified ie whatever it is carrying must be worth a lot more than the hire cost to whoever needs the cargo on the other end.

It know it cost Halliburton €2.5m to ship four drilling tools from Houston to Libya a few years ago.
