Cycling to/from the Gym..ok?

Planning on cycling to the gym instead of driving, at least some decent cardio done.

Route is just shy of 9km with plenty of hills. Is this a bad thing to do on the way back after lifting in the gym?

I don`t even lift much by the way, but hoping to one day soon.

You won't be lifting much anytime soon if you are cycling 18km on your round trip to the gym.
    First figure this out:
Is your primary goal to develop cardio vascular fitness or to get strong/add muscle?
Look at the difference between a sprinter and a long distance runnner.
They have very different physiques. You can't be both.

9km on the bike is nothing if you are reasonably fit, use it as a warm up and warm down.

Lads, if op was asking if it's ok to do 9pm on a stationary bike before and after a workout he'd be shouted at like discus when his mrs finds the toilet up.

I'd say do it, but keep in mind that at some stage in the future, you may have to switch over to a car to help your recovery.

Keep well hydrated if you do.

It's only 9km each way, if he has a bike which is in any way decent that will only get the blood flowing it won't kill his 'gains'. He said he might want to lift in the future, he doesn't strive to be some elite weight lifter whereby he simply lifts and sits on the couch all day to recover. 18km/day on a bike will not hamper anything provided he still intakes a sufficient amount of calories to progress his lifts.

Honestly the phobia of some weight lifters to a bit of cardio is comical. Weight lifting is not an excuse to be an unfit mess who does zero cardio with the half-assed excuse that it will hamper recovery or progress.

Now that the weathers good I think I will cycle to the gym indeed. Will be a good workout. Ill bring double the water (don`t like the gym water..its rough)

Roles will be reversed, I`m usually the one thinking to myself "keep in off the middle of the road bleedin cyclists"

He can go at a snails pace on the bike to & from the gym. If he said he was doing a 9km warmup people would expect him to be going at a handy pace on a exercise bike, as most people would picture some one at least sweating if using such a bike.

I cannot jog or run for any length of time, yet I could stroll for many hours without much bother on me. Same with cycling, if I am going somewhere and do not want to break a sweat then I just go at a pace which is minimal effort, and the equivalent of a stroll. I see lads & girls cycling to work in formal work attire.

It can be easier to get off the bike and walk in very hilly places.
