    Hi,

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on city centre gyms. I've gained some weight and I'd like to lose it and tone up. I'm not overweight (5'3, 127) but I'm not happy with how I look and I could def be fitter. I've been interested in getting into weight lifting, and reading some of the reviews of the Markievicz centre, people were saying the weights there weren't great. I'm looking to build a bit of muscle so I look toned, but not to the extent of figure competitors, so I'm not sure how much equipment I really need, and given that I have some weight to lose, it would help to have a pool. Can anyone tell me whether they'd have the right equipment or would I be better going with Flyfit?

    Thanks!

in truth you don't need any gym at all to lose weight or "tone" up.
watch what you eat and do some body weight stuff round your house and you could have an excellent physique (google )

If you do want to lift weights there is no comparison. Flyfit is new and well equipped - the Markievicz isn't ( at least not the last time I was there )

Can't advise on what sort of training you need to do, but I can comment on Markiewicz as I used it for a few months.

    Positives:

    - You can pay per go (or at least you could at the time), which is great if you don't want to commit.
    - The pool is a good size.
    - handy location
    - cheap

    Negatives:

    - It's a pretty terrible gym. I've been in a good few gyms and have to say it's the worst I've seen. The weights are in short supply, way too close to each other and crap quality. Very little upkeep and very little free weights. It lacked a few basic equipment also afair.
The cardio equipment isn't much better.

    - It's jammed at peak times. This was a problem in particular with the swimming pool, as people are constantly sliding off each other.

Having said that, I haven't been there for 2 years or so....
