How did you do?

How did people do, and how did they do in comparison to what they were aiming for?

My target was to finish in the top 50k ideally, and the top 100k at least.

At the moment I'm 102,905th, so the former is extremely unlikely, but the latter would be accomplished with a good score tomorrow. I was around the 50k mark as late as week 21, but things have gone downhill slowly and consistently since then really.

My aim was to improve greatly on last year, which was my worst year. I've definitely done that, sitting just outside the top 30k.

Above all though, I'm still in with a shot at winning my main league on the final gameweek; 12pts behind the leader with some good potential differentials.

Top 50k, although I was around 20k but the last two months have been a disaster. Still happy enough with top 50 though.

Done pretty well this year . Sitting at about 1200 now hopefully ill make the top 1000 but I won't be to upset if I don't .

None of my mates play seriously so my overall rank means more to me than winning mini leagues .

Not really the year I was hoping for. Ran away with my private league but I take it more seriously than my mates so no real accomplishment. I finished 11K-ish last year and was hoping to do better. I reached 20,000 in November but lost the plot then for 2 months. Spent weeks longing for the Jan wildcard and by the time Jan came I had my team in good shape again and made a push back to 68,000 over xmas having fallen to an awful 190,000 between

Was cruising steadily there as pretty much everyone had the same set of players until I headed off on a 2 month trip at the start of Feb encompassing 8GW's which made FF pretty difficult. Used my wildcard especially to keep things ticking over as best I could. However I dropped to 168,000 before returning for GW33 and dragging myself to 62,000 last week. My lowest score has been 61 and highest 109 in these past few weeks while my average while away was 48 which wasn't bad considering I had 5 minutes some weeks to bandage things up.

I set a target of 70,000 when I got back and I've surpassed that which is pleasing. I'd taken about 6 points hits all season and went on to make another 11 in the last 5 weeks so FutureGuy has something right in terms of hits. If I could at all go sub 60k it will have been a month well spent and in theory bodes well for next year. It's no coincidence that since I became active here that I've improved too. So yeah it's been an up and down year nestling in behind the big-guns and waiting to pounce next year hopefully.

Wow, I've never gone this long without mentioning Mickey Turner before :pac:

finished just outside 1k last year was hoping to do better but that was always going to be difficult. Currently 4k so a decent year but have found the last third of the season very frustrating. Have my main league won and am undecided whether I should just captain sturridge or bale(the masses will) which should insure Ill finish inside the top 5k or captain carroll and hope sturridge/bale have a quiet one which could potentially see me climb a fair bit in the overall rankings.

4007th in the world at present, ideally there will be a 3 as the first digit of my position come tomorrow evening.

Last year was the first I played it seriously, after coming across the forums and fiso etc midway through the previous season when it was close in my private leagues. I finished 50k and managed to win my work leagues, but my brother managed to finish 200th and his friend finished 3rd in the global league, so I realised that 50k was actually pretty sh*t.

So starting last season my aim was a top 10k position. I ran well and had some good luck which propelled me inside the top 1k for much of the season, but some f**k ups in the last month pushed me down to a finishing position of 4k which wasn't great considering I figured I was set for a top 1k finish.

This season my target was the same, finish in the top 10k which I've said a few times a decent player should be able to do. I've had some shocking luck this season and made some key bad decisions which have cost me, but am currently 1 point inside my target position. This week will decide whether I can class myself as 'decent' or not.

Coming in the top 0.5% is only decent?

Yep. More of the regular posters in here would be in the top 10k than not. 98% of the players in the game are casual.

    Just over 1K

Would love if I finish under after tomorrow

I've wondered how many people actively play the game. I think a lot more than 2% do, judging by transfer activity etc. Then again I'm not sure what your definition of casual is. Where did you get the figure 98% from?

I'd also be surprised if most of the posters here are inside 10k. Obviously some people have done very well. But I think people are more likely to post scores and ranks that are good than ones that are bad, so the overall impression is skewed a bit.

finish inside the top 200 on boards for the first time ever. currently on 191st :)

Actively? Probably about 40%, maybe less. There was only 1.1m transfers made last week, between 2.6m players. Granted some will have not made a transfer, but some will also have made double. I would guess about 1.5m teams are inactive.

I think you are mixing up actively and casually. I'd define a casual player as someone who logs in once a week to make transfers and doesn't put too much effort in, doesn't check forums or FISO and is generally just focusing on winning private leagues between friends/colleagues. And I said most of the regular posters, not most of the posters.

As for the 98% - top 2% in the world is top 52k. If you are regularly checking forums and take the game seriously then a top 50k finish should be guaranteed. Most good players would consider the top 1% an 'easy' target. I've certainly noticed a vast improvement since I started putting a bit more time into it, my first few seasons I didn't have a clue and finished 100k+.

Finished in the top 30k last year so I wanted to improve on that. This year I have not played as much and forgot to change my team a good few weeks so I am currently in the top 40k now.

    Decent, I guess.

I agree with roryc it's just the issue of defining what a serious and casual player is. I have only really started thinking serious since December this year despite doing well last year, jumped on Sig, Cisse and Ben Arfa at the exact right time and never let go. Most people in the top 200,000 have a little more interest than those outside until you reach 70/80K (maybe I'm being generous) but are still relatively casual.

I base this on the fact that having neglected the game for 8 GWs I fell only 100,000 places and those weeks were stinkers for me. It has taken me 5 weeks to climb back up past where I had been. I took points hits and did gamble more than I probably would have done if I had something to play for and will bring this with me next year to an extent.

My point is that if those players between 160K and 60K were paying attention for anymore than 15 minutes a week then I wouldn't have been able to get to where I am. Unless I'm actually just getting much better :pac: I would expect to keep rising at a slower pace if the season went on longer though, although I could just be getting arrogant.

I only started playing FF in February 2012 but didn't take it seriously until the beginning of this season. I didn't really know what to expect as it was a step into the unknown so to speak. I set myself a target of top 100k which I thought I would struggle to get. This forum has helped me a lot though and I often check fiso for the price rises/falls. I have managed to stay inside the top 10k since the midway stage of the season which I'm very pleased about. The main private league I'm in has mostly casual players so after the first 3 or 4 months I easily got to the top and remained there without any hassle. I'd say next year will be a tougher season as this year most players could afford all the top stars by Christmas. Hopefully I can maintain my good record and maybe push on further into the elite rankings.

I'm in the 270s in the overall rankings; 20 points off top spot in the Boards League. Not sure I can bridge that gap this weekend, though...

This has definitely been my best season in the FPL game. Would love to finish it on a high.

In around the 20,000 mark. Happy enough but I know I made a couple of stupid decisions over the year which affected my overall. One of those was not bringing in Michu at the start of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,283 ✭✭✭G1032

Aim was to finish in the top 50 of the boards league. Currently just outside the top 20. Would love a good week to push me inside top 20. I'm just inside the top 3500 overall.

    Some great scores here

I had only one target: to win private money league

Overall rank is only an interesting aside for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,256 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

Don't really know what my target was this year. I finished around 300th in the world last year and hadn't the energy, motivation or time to try and top that this year.

I'm currently lieing at 7800 and happy with that. My work league was my one big challenge. I regularly won it but the people in it pushed me on. Now that its gone I can win my other private leagues fairly routinely so the motivation isn't there.

It's also been a very poor PL season IMO so that's taken away from the game too. Just look at the farce for the last two game weeks. Only 2 or 3 teams with realistically something to play for.

I'll enter next year alright (I have to as I'm mod for one of my annual private leagues) but don't think I'll be watching the goals/assists on Saturday/Sunday with such interest anymore.

Now that Blackburn haven't bounced back from the championship like I thought they would I'll have to watch a bit more of it too!

    Good luck folks.

At what point though in the tables can you see the difference between say those who played for the first few week and abandoned, and say those who just cant pick a squad to save their lifes.

Them who cant pick a squad and the average/casuals.

The averege/casauls and them who give it a good go.

Them who give it a good go and them who use every resource available.

Now I dont go all out, would like to think maybe somewhere between the 'The averege/casauls and them who give it a good go', but not sure if around 600k overall place reflects that. Last season was finishing in the top half of all my private leagues (not sure on the boards one), this season I've been stuck at mid table for the whole season.

    Edit.

Although just looking back at previous seasons, so really dont know how/where to place my self.

    2009/10 pts 2120 pos 174287
    2010/11 pts 2020 pos 61039
    2011/12 pts 1802 pos 807834

Well I'd be considered casual from what people are saying here. I did look at it almost every week though. To me that seemed like a commitment in itself!

Finished with 2070, ranked 97,845. Reasonable improvement on 2009/2010 season when I played actively before and scored 2164, ranked 113,255. Neither happy nor disappointed with my result really.

    Season: 2011/12 Points: 1871 Rank: 531,099
    Season: 2012/13 Points: 2142 Rank: 34,629

I wanted to break 2K this year, I am very happy with the year

Top 800 overall. Best season so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭OctavarIan

    Final rank: 8,601

Happy with that. Been hovering around 10k since Christmas and a bit of luck today threw me up a bit. Only wanted to beat my score last year, which I did by 97 points, so happy out I guess.

I find Boards.ie to have a high standard in general. Although I'm not sure how many actually actively post here and how many just joined the league.

    My FF history to date

    Season Points Rank
    2006/07 1826 91382
    2007/08 2036 124385
    2008/09 1950 50672
    2009/10 2437 1228
    2010/11 2046 38874
    2011/12 2279 524
    2012/13 2233 6553

So 3 out of the last 4 seasons have been relatively successful. This season had a few blocks of very poor GWs where I was ranked outside the top 1million for the GW, worst of these was GW27-GW32 and I dropped from inside the top 10K to 32K, made some very poor decisions in transfers and captain choices. Also had 2 good periods, GW 21-26 and GW33-GW38, where every decision seemed to work out.

On the FFS Hall of Fame my career ranking has me at 273 (http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/hall-of-fame/career/) Interesting tool to compare your totals over the years, hopefully once 06/07 drops off I should improve more
