    Giro d'Italia ‏@giroditalia
Stage 14 route has been modified: no Sestriere, we'll go through the Val di Susa. Confirmed the finish on the Jafferau. #giro

So the stage has been lengthened by 12km, with a summit finish still at Jafferau. The riders will go through the Val di Susa valley before the final climb to the finish.

There are four DNS' today: Daniele Bennati (TST), Karsten Kroon (TST) , Gert Steegmans (OPQ) and Jack Bobridge (BLA).

    Oh, and it's raining.

I see it now, and its only going to be a 50k stage if thats the case

also the finish will be lowered to la verneys, which is just above valloire. so they will come down the telegraph [5k] then up to le verney, which is another few steep km up from valloire. :(

it would be disappointing for there to be no galibier tomorrow but the positive is it will be really tight in the top 10 going into final week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Rastadoyle

The people at the finish appear to be making the best of it anyway :D

At this stage, I suspect the only live action we'll see is them crossing the finish line!

22km to go and the gap is 5'30" between the breakaway and the peloton.

I hope nobody set aside the chance for a nice spin on their bike this afternoon in expectation of some action in the Giro....

Worse, it sounds as if the stage to the Galibier tomorrow is under serious threat of re-routing too. :(

xKM to go and the gap in interest is growing by the second............fcukin' weather. I can understand that they cannot get helicopters in the air in these conditions, but surely its not beyond possibility to get some ground related images from moto's. (or do they relay the moto pics via the helos ?_

I think the moto feed is relayed via the helicopter.

still 4 min lead goin onto climb will that be enough? only 30-40 riders left in peloton

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,570 ✭✭✭Rovi

To the best of my knowledge, all the feeds from the moving cameras is relayed upwards to aircraft/helicopters and bounced from there to the production people.
No aircraft in the air = no live feed from the moving cameras.

Rai Sport are at least showing live feed of the finish line.

Nice little touch from Nibali towards the end. Gave Santo the nod with about 250 to go.
Must have been some final climb, Cadel 30+ seconds behind and riders scattered all over the place.

Gesink has lost over 4 minutes.

I can't for the life of me understand why he keeps being touted as a GC contender, or am i missing something?

Have report direct from french Alps.

Snow line is as low as 1800m so rain failling as snow above this height.

    Stelvio conditions

As you go east conditions are better as weather is a bit warmer.

    'Global warming'

That's the thing I don't get. It's not like they're a one off occurance, happens all the time. To stand any chance you need to be consistency which he seems to lacking in spades.

well he consistently has at least one bad stage ;)

It's not that he has one bad stage but he seems to be trying to fool himself on those stages. Invariably you see him on the attack one minute and then out the back the next.

why cant they change the rest day to tomorow. then see if galibier available monday. also gives them time to arrange another route if its not in use on monday!

There's a whole process behind this. Changing things at the last minute affects TV schedules, road closures, local authority, police, safety support etc. Sometimes it's a matter of working round what you have got as best you can and keeping changes to a minimum

I was thinking that today of all days to be without TV pictures - weekend, so lots more people planning watching it live. Hoping the highlights are decent.
