    Hello all,
    2 part question:
    1. I have been offered a Teal 22 cruiser with a Mercury 75 hp o/board at what I think is a good price. The engine hasn't been run for 2 years. Think it would be ok and how to go about starting it after a long lay-up?
    2. The boat has trim tabs (I think that's what they're called). If they were removed and a much smaller engine fitted, could it be used as a river/canal boat? Speed would not be an issue, economy would.
    Thanks.

    Hi Noddyone2

firstly cehck the gearbox oil, if milky or chards of metal on it then that'll have to be looked into.

    Check the impeller

squirt some oil in the cylinders and move the flywheel and see if it moves freely .

Drain the carbs to see if stale fule is in them

Check wiring to make sure it all looks ok

Use fresh fuel and if all above is ok I'd see i'd she if goes....

on the trim tabs , I'd leave them there, they are there to make the ride more comfortable and stable.

How much smaller are is the other engine going to be ??

Thank for that. I thought about 25 hp. and any advice about that would be welcome too.

25 hp would be fine for pushing her about. You will also need a set of earmuffs to test run the merc unless you have in a tank or on the water also as it's been sitting for two years I would change the impeller first they can become brittle when not used for a while and if it breaks up it can block your cooling system causing you all sorts of problems. If it's a two stroke the oil mix will be 50 to 1 I think breghall covered the rest, good luck with her.
