Real bad afternoon here in north donegal ground is really saturated you would think it will never dry out do not what will be the end of it no silage no grass looks like no fodder for next winter

We have missed most of the bad weather ground conditions are perfect. Grass stopped growing last week with the cold but has started growing again. Thank god as am on heavy marl land.

Heavy showers on and off here today, fairly warm maybe 15C between the showers. Dry Land is just about navigable in the jeep with 4wd on, wet land is walkable:cool:

Biggest challenge of the day: putting a chin ball marker on an aubrac bull

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    Hail and rain showers.
    7c here at the moment.

Good ground is soft ad poor ground is in a near liquid state.

    Yeah that. Thankfully.:D

Sunny and warm. We have both dry land where ground conditions are perfect and heavy marly land which has cattle on it and they are not doing any damage. Grass covers are light. Silage is closed off five weeks almost and is well back on other years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,396 ✭✭✭✭Timmaay

Yep sunny and warmish here. Ground is rock hard! Not much rain over the whole of may, just enough! It would be perfect if the goddam temp was higher and abit more sun, but just not good enough conditions for the massive burst of grass growth that is sooo badly needed.

Heavy showers almost every hour here in Cavan. Cavan town area half an inch of hail stones at 4pm

Watched a Hare amble across a silage field, fertilized a fortnight ago, and I could see his paws on the ground......

Very heavy showers here today around 4 or 5. Very cold wind. No growth. Was out walking some if the ground. No decking grass coming up. Have enough for a week or 2 but no growth at all coming back up on grazed ground. Meadows are bare even though fertiliser out a month.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,701 ✭✭✭moy83

Its wet , I counted eight curlews in a field this evening that we cut silage from in the last week of May last year
Its looking like its going to lash tonight too .

Massive downpour in mid Clare this afternoon. Roads flooded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 506 ✭✭✭Alibaba

Its absolutely awful here. (Kerry). Day wasn't too bad , couple of showers but there was a thunder shower this eve that lasted at least 1.5 hrs.

I'd say at least half an inch of rain fell then.

Ground is absolutely saturated. Total disaster.

Some guys have no silage ground closed yet - can't even travel now , no grass, no fodder.

No exaggeration - but the situation is desparate in a lot of cases.

I heard the Cuckoo last night and all the birds were mad singing. It was cold and wet and miserable and I'm thinking - do they know something we don't. Got up this morning and not a cloud in the sky. Have we turned a corner - I hope so.

Unbelievable drying today, badly wanted after the flood. Wind has turned to the east as well, this could hopefully turn into a dry spell

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭bbam

Bright here in Cavan but was frosty overnight. Was below 0c for 4 hours overnight. Grass was white this morning.
Grass rapidly grazing away but not much regrowth in past week.

Just started flogging rain outside Killarney. With the fine morning i was even thinking about putting out fertiliser. Might as well keep it parked in the shed.

Wrecked, and this is a dry farm. Had planned to go out with Urea today, but giving 10mms of rain tomorrow for here. Fert can wait till Monday.

14 degrees here all day today. Just made a short thunder shower. Steam rising off a load of five inch stone I bought to try fix a few broken drains. When you see steam like that, you know the grass is growing!!!!!!
    What a welcome sight.
