I thought this might be fun,
what quirks, OCD issues do you have on the course, be it on preparation, tee shots etc ?

    I'll get the ball rolling.

    1. I have to be dressed right, if I don't like what I'm wearing, I may as well go home !!

    2. Before every shot, I need to click my left wrist (I've a clicky wrist) .. I know ... ODD BALL HERE !!

    3. First tee, my golf ball has to be immaculate !!!!

    4. I've a click hip also, so I kind of have to click it into place. I have to lift the left leg up abit and do a circular motion with it. Bit like a dog having a pee :D

    5. Before every drive, or iron shot, I have to say to myself, I will not slice it, I will not slice it (twice !!).

6). I need to know exactly in what pockets my car keys are, my wallet etc etc are in. I still end up checking anyway mid round regardless !!

Christ, it's a wonder I can navigate myself round the course after thinking about it !!!

I have a pair of socks that I only wear when playing matchplay

When playing I always keep pitch mark repairer in left pocket and two long tees, two short tees and an American quarter in my right pocket

Ok, you see, I have an issue with this. ;)

Firstly, I hope you wash that one pair of socks you use !!

Secondly, I can't have anything in my left pocket, as I'm right handed, and wear a glove. It's awkward getting stuff from your pocket if you're wearing a glove (It is for me anyway).

Obviously! They're orange and navy squares so can't really wear them anywhere else....been used 9 times in last 2 years.

I also wear a glove but take it off after every shot and put it on as part of my pre shot routine while thinking about club and visualising shot.

Am similarly clothing obsessed. One all black outfit (including hankie).
Have an all grey outfit too & actually looked for grey golf shoes to match.
Amazingly had no luck with that.

Mad ?. Yeah, but that's OCD for ya.

2 short tees, 2 long tees in right pocket
    repairer in back right pocket.
    name on ball.

I might as well sew up my left front pocket as I look like a dog trying to bite his own tail if I attempt to use the left pocket at all.

    Yup!
Plastic, graduated ones, breaking wooden ones and inconsistent height was just annoying for me.

Ok, I'm gonna do a Ricky on it.
Are you a member of Grange Castle?

I'll post my list of quirks up once I've typed it, and retyped it a further 99 times

One more for the dress coordination here. If I'm out of sync in that regard, I don't play. It also upsets me if headwear and shoes are the wrong colour (on others as much as myself ).

A quirke of mine that's become quite exaggerated over the years is to address the ball with the clubhead a couple of feet behind the ball. Most people that play with me for the first time comment on it but it's become habit now so doesn't bother me.

Also, wallets, phone, watch have to go in the correct bag pocket, the one that has been specifically selected for that item. Still doesn't stop me forgetting them of course.

Don't get me started on slow play...I'm usually further than my playing partners so am always ready to play when my turn

Do you guys ever think that if you got rid of these OCD traits you might be able to relax and play better golf?

*and by get rid I mean years of therapy.

Or not be able to play at all!!!

My tee/marker/repairer thing is just habit really, its means that I dont need to go fidgeting/searching for stuff on the first tee so I can relax (and then I know the duck hook wasnt caused by stress, just talent)

Ben, your a fine golfer. But that is a bit precious. :)

On others too. lol. Dont play with me.

I always have to tee off first at every hole, just one of those things.
I never play with the same partner twice either, that's not by choice though:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,727 ✭✭✭Nozebleed

guy i play with takes on average 28 seconds to take a putt. its a nightmare.

I don't think I have any quirks but I do hate having long sleeves on during a round, unless its a tight base layer sleeve. If it is cold I'll roll up the sleeve before hitting a shot and roll them back down until the next shot.

You mean LOFT, LOFt is the problem with most amateur golfers, myself included.

    Lack Of F**king Talent.

I'm so OCD that I have to call it CDO. Can't have the acronym not in alphabetical order.

    1. Always put the left sock on first.
    2. Pitch repairer and ball marker in left pocket, 2 tees only in right pocket
    3. Shoe laces tied in a double bow (never do it anywhere else but the course?)
    4. Never stand behind anyone on the tee box
    5. Bottle of water, sports drink, banana and muesli bar in the bag
    6. Clean clubs, can't stand dirty clubs with bits of grass in the grooves

About the only thing I'm not OCD about is my clothing. I really don't care if my "look" is coordinated as long as it conforms to the necessary dress standards.

Taking the glove out of my pocket and putting it on my hand doesn't take as long as you seem to think

Mine are to slow myself down to try to relax and my golf has improved, off 7 now from 10 at this stage last year

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,467 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

1 tall tee and 1 short tee in front right pocket, along with marker and pitch mark repairer and two balls (hate being away from the bag and heading back to bag if I need to hit a provisional).
Glove and facecloth (to clean ball on the green) in front left pocket.
    Never use any other pocket.
Always leave trolley pointed on route to next shot/tee.
All so I know where exactly everything is so I can keep it moving.

Folks standing on tee marking cards do my head in, play if it's your turn and take care of housekeeping whilst others are playing.

It must be terrible if you've taken the time to time him over a consistent period of time to accurately come up with that average!

I'd say over the course of a round it takes longer than you think, considering you probably do it more than 50 times.

If it takes 10s then thats around 10 mins of time that you could potentially be doing something else.

So, my 2c; do it before you get to your ball.

    I always ::

Put all my change in my left pocket
Tie my left shoe in a double knot
    wear my cap backwards
and finally take a tee and stick it behind my left ear.

Hit it perfect everytime once I do this :)

Would most not take 28 seconds, read.
    read.
    practice
    hit.

    what part is 28.

I'm considering they have included 6 inch putts in that aswell - they probably only take 2 seconds to hit. So his longer putts must be pushing on 1-2 minutes a go

Approx. 18 times a round for long shots (would have it on me going on to tee, don't use for pitching/chipping/putting) and more often than not I would be standing at my ball with the club in my hand waiting to play, one practice swing and bang

Yes...walking to ball or waiting to hit the shot. I'm with you on slow play, I can't stand guys who wait and admire everyone else's shots and only then start to think about their own shot, what club to play etc.

I think I suffer from a lack of OCD, I wouldn't mind incorporating it into my game...

Just a tiny snapshot of my inner thoughts during a round, I drive myself mad

Which pocket is the card in???
    Where's the bloody pen??
Fcuk it... thats the third time today you've stuck your finger into a tee
Why don't you put them in one pocket you fool
Jez, look at the state of your clubs, would you not have washed them the night before.
You didn't clean your clubs but made sandwiches last night, good lad, that's a bit of progress.....bravo on leaving them in the fridge you idiot

I do however, always put my right sock on first, so I'm hoping to build on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭CarefulNow!

let me guess, it has to be number 3, because that's the number you want to score on every hole ?
