    Hey everyone!

I'll be building a new gaming rig in the near future and was just looking for advice on whether or not I'm going in the right direction. I'm a casual gamer, hoping for this rig to last a few years. I play mostly games like Minecraft, COD, DayZ and will be using a few emulators as well. This computer will also be used for some light photoshop usage as well.

    CoolerMaster Elite 371 Midi-Tower Case - 500W PSU, Black
(2xUSB3.0, 1xAudio, 1x120mm Fan, Steel Body, ABS Plastic, ATX)

    Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 Motherboard
    (AM3+, HT 5200, 970, SB950, 4xDDR3-2000, 2xPCI-Ex16 v2.0, 6xSATA-III, RAID, 1xGigLAN, 8Chl-HD, USB3.0, ATX)

    AMD FX-8320 8-Core CPU (3.50GHz - 4.00GHz Turbo) - AM3+, 8MB L2 & 8MB L3 Cache, 32nm, 125W

    8GB (2 x 4GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 RAM

    500GB 7200rpm Serial ATA-III-6Gb/s HDD

24x DVD+-RW Dual Layer DVD Burner

    Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 - 2GB GDDR5 - (1100MHz, 4800MHz)
    (256-bit, 1xDVI, 2xMini-DisplayPort, 1xHDMI, PCI-Ex16 v3.0, Fansink - Overclocked Edition)

I'm considering getting this, it'll come custom built for €788, but am willing to build myself if better parts could be suggested, just thought this seemed like a good deal.

Could definately do much better with a DIY build for the same money, you'd could get a slightly better GPU, 120GB SSD and bigger HDD and a good cooler.

Yeah that is a good bit better, I was interested in getting a SSD originally, never even thought to use both! Thanks, this is my first build and I don't really know what I'm doing. :o

Building a PC isn't not too bad, its really electronic lego for the most part. For another €20 you can get HWVS to build it for you as well if you really wanted, although you would still have to install the CPU cooler yourself (They won't ship with a large cooler attached to the CPU).

The above build was more a comparision with what you were getting, rather than a definitive suggestion as to what to get, it would definately be worth filing out the questions on this thread in here as theres probably an even more suitable build for your needs/ ideal budget.

Oh I wouldn't mind building myself at all, it was what I was going for originally. Someone just told me that that pre-built computer seemed to be a good deal.

I purposely didn't fill out the questionnaire because I have to move to Australia first before I start my build, so it won't be for another three months or so. I was just wondering if I could do better than that, glad to see I can because I wanted to put a rig together myself instead of just paying someone else too. :)

    Thanks for your help.

for the extra few quid its worth going for the 8350,Its half a GHz faster stock out of the box for little extra. Glad I did and would recomend.
I'v also read the pro series of the samsung SSD are the better ones to go for as non pro has caused a lot of compatability issues, have no experience myself with SSD tho so take it for what its worth..
best of luck with your new build.

ps, Why does everyone seem to use hardwareversand.de for everything here??

True although the main reason I have a slight preference for the FX8320 is because it is a good bit cheaper, and if you are overclocking you can achieve very similar results to the FX8350.

Similar story with the non pro 840, its good, not quite as good as the pro, however you do pay accordingly.

As for HWVS get used because there prices are generally the cheapest for a full build, and they have fairly good customer service, albiet ocasionally slow.
