    Hey all,
Just thought I'd make this thread to talk about results. I did a Level 5 this year, I don't really know when I am getting my results, we were told ''around the end of May'' and nothing else so I guess any time after the next week or so :P
No idea how we are getting them either, I assume via post.

    When are you getting yours?
If you have gotten them, were you happy with your results? :)

It depends from college to college I guess. Mostly they come around July, and you will get your result in the post on a similar sheet to the leaving cert.

Then sometime around September you will get an A3 certificate that just says your course name and that you've passed it. All fancy n stuff.

Anyone have any idea what time of the year our offers from the CAO come back? I'm getting my "provisional results" on Monday, I know the actual results from FETAC will come back in July, mid to late as far as I'm aware? But then what happens with our CAO offers cuz I need to sort out Accom and shtuff.... xx

Early August for the CAO offers!

I'm so confused about the FETAC results, I emailed my course again and they said we'll have our results the 28th of May. From the FETAC websites the results will be finalised in mid June.

    Oooh goody :)

Yeah, colleges correct the exams themselves, and then your teachers will give you your results for your modules. But after you've gotten your results, Scripts/portfolios/ALL your work will be shipped off to the FETAC offices where a very important person will decide if our grades are "fair" and all the rest. Apparently they just skim over the results and don't scrutinise everything you've done so its not much to worry about, as far as I'm aware....

It depends on what courses you're applying for.

Nursing students get their offers in early August.

Most other students get it at the same time the leaving cert students do.

Hi all, there's two different rounds of offers for Fetac places. I've been anxiously looking all of this up.

If you're applying for a course in a university of DIT, you will get your offer in Round Zero (I think it's the second of August)

If you're applying to institutes of technology, you are applying under the Pilot Scheme, which means your fetac results will be turned into leaving cert points and you will compete against Leaving Cert students. Offers for those courses will be round 1 (middle of August)

How do you all think you did in terms of results?

And what courses are you all applying for? :)

P.S if anybody is applying for a grant for next year, the applications have opened over on www.grantsonline.ie :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭92Grainne1992

I think I did f***ing CLASS! But I'll find out monday and i'll probably fail them all hahaha. Going for social Care in DIT or Blanch... If worst comes to worst I'll do psychology in Waterford.... ick :(

Haha, that's good! Where were you studying your fetac course? Would you have to move for the course in Waterford?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭92Grainne1992

I did it down in Dun Laoghaire, Was one long tough year, wasn't expecting to be working my ass off so hard for something.... Only did the course for the craic like; haha. Yeah I'm living out the Southside so I'd have to move if i ended up in Blanch or Waterford, started my grant application though so fingers crossed.... I already did a year in Limerick ya see, doing a level 6 so I don't know if I'll get the grant for a level 8 for first year... wait and see... :(

Can you not do social care in Waterford? Psychology is a lot different from social care. Wouldnt advise doing it if its not what you're interested in.

Have you looked at Tallaght and Dundalk? They both do social and would be closer than Waterford. I think Trinity does too but I'm not sure what the situation would be in Regards to fetac students..

I know the CAO change of mind stays open until July 1st, so you've got a bit of time. Look it up :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭92Grainne1992

Yeah Trinners has no FETAC links, have social care/studies down and then I've 2 courses to do psychology, just in case... want to start doing something, but didnt really enjoy the psychology module this year, like practical things more, so will wait and see! Just want monday to come cuz I want to know how I got on... what about yourself?

Are you getting your results from college this Monday? I don't get mind until the following Monday, but I pretty much know what I'm getting!

I'm hoping to study in DCU, either Journalism or Communications. Haven't quite made up my mind yet.

What results do you need to progress?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭92Grainne1992

5 distinctions.... have 2 from communications and W/E anyway so thats alright, just hope my results go the way I want them to! I would of loved DCU but i didnt get the points in the leaving and theres no social science there, boo. :( oh well, not meant to be!

Was your fetac course exam based or continuous assessment?

Yeah I don't live too far from DCU so it's handy for me. I have all 10 places filled up on the CAO but I would probably only accept three, Journalism or Communications in DCU and Journalism in DIT.

Mostly based on CA, one of our exams was only worth 30% of the final grade like, Just I found I was so busy with assignments we didnt have the time to study at the end of the year... Yourself?

We had three exams but the rest were assignments, which was handy.

How many modules did you do overall?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭92Grainne1992

Happy days, we did 8 modules... 2 were 100% CA, rest were a mix of CA and exams.... So excited to know I've never wanted it to be monday so badly hahaha. Sound like such a nerd ^.^

Even if you get distinctions in eight modules, you only get 400 points. My course is over 400? Are you sure we'd be competing with Leaving Cert students, because they are still reserving places for FETAC students?

I'm sure there is someone who could tell you how it works better than I can, but I think there's a quota of places for Fetac students (about 3-5) and then others may compete against leaving cert students.

There are two different schemes, the pilot scheme and the Higher Eduction Links Scheme. The Pilot scheme (mainly Institutes of Technology) is the one where you compete against leaving cert students, the HEL's Scheme (Universitites and DIT) is where there is a quota for fetac. I.E five places get given to the fetac students who applied and had the highest amount of distinctions.

Again, I may be wrong so don't solely go on by what I said but that's my understanding of it.

Ah I see, we actually did 11 modules. I've gotten 11 distinctions so I'm hoping I get offered my first place! They only calculate the best 8 modules however. Good luck with the results :)

As far as I'm aware there's the FETAC links scheme, its all on the qualifax.ie website that gives u info on all the courses your interested in. 10% of the places for prospective students will be allocated to FETAC applicant, so if theres 100 places on the course, 10 places will go to FETAC applicants etc.

11 distinctions is definitely something to be proud of either way! I hope you get your place :D

I know someone who did a Level 5 and did their exams a week or so after me, and got their results today! HURRY UP!

    8 Distinctions, BOOM!

Wooohooo! Congratulations! Hopefully you get your CAO choice!

I don't get my official results until next Monday but I'm pretty sure I got distinctions in every module :)

I think someone usually sets up a CAO offers thread in the Fetac section, so I shall see you there :)

No just our official college results prior to them being sent to an external examiner, most of the tutors in my college said they are rarely changed.

Yeah, I don't think we get the official cert from Fetac until July or something.

I've seen 10 of my results already (one of the sounder tutors showed me them on the sly :) ) and I've gotten 10 distinctions, I'm confident that the other module will be a distinction too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Sean1975

Don't know exactly myself when the results are out. Fetac's website gives a number of different dates depending on when everything should be submitted.
Some people and i think i am lucky to say this have had offers from colleges already.... Early offers from the CAO will be posted on the 4th-5th of July and then the rest is as normal.
Grants applications were opened today online also!!!!
so best of luck to everyone

The results that you are getting are all provisional results and are subject to change under the External Authentication process and the results Approval Panels. The official and final results will be released via an online system to your centre at the end of June/early July. The centre should then print off the results and send them out to you.

    Best of luck

Thanks :) is it often that results are changed by external examiners?

Yes - they do change them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭seven_eleven

I was told they rarely change them. Infact, they come in, and select maybe only 5 peoples work to inspect out of the whole class.

No idea if there's any truth to this though.

My tutors told me the same, they come in and select a few and flick through them :P

was talking to my course coordinator over the last few days and the external examiners haven't been into my college for all the courses but we should know provisionally by next week along with a date if we want our results to be appealed. If anyone chooses to appeal their results all work from that class will be checked and all marks can be changed.
So lets hope no one in any class appeals that way your results may be changed by June.

Comments that results are not changed and that not many are looked at etc are widespread but as both an External Examiner and External Authenticator I have often changed results, both up and down and a Trainer have found this is also a regular occurrence.

Re how much is viewed an Extern will select a sample of grades from each module - therefore not every student's work for every module is checked. But if there is a problem then more work will be viewed.

If a learner/student appeals their result it should only be that result which is checked. Work of students who do not appeal should not be checked but maybe your college/centre has a different procedure.

Got my results so happy :)
According to a letter I got with them, my results were externally verified by FETAC examiners and the examination board approved my results, so what are the changes of them being changed now?

Ive just gotten my results for a level 6 fetac course, I failed one module and im planning on appealing it. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the success rate of level 6 appeals are, I think my result may have been borderline but feel I had done enough to get a pass.
