I'd suggest people checking the opening hours of their local chipper, from experience the ones that open for lunch are far more likely to run out of fish early.

For the last three years there has been a local non affiliated ITICA chipper out our way that cashes in on this event. His chips are pre frozen and his processed fish would disintegrate before you would reach the end of the bag.

Every year i'm surprised there's only ever one in Cork.

Good points: Yay! Cheap fish and chips, match to watch, affiliated chipper just down the road :)

Bad points: I HATE websites that automatically start playing videos/music/sound when you open them.

Went to my local chipper for this on the way home from work last year because people were talking about it and the little seed of a fishnchip supper was planted. It was like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DigiWS1YhxI. I headed on down the road to our Irish chipper so I could queue up like a normal person and lo, he only charged half price too. Before somebody says 'cool story bro': Morale of the story is this: some other chippers are doing it - not just the eye-talians.

Anyway, get this: In Ireland, the first fish and chips were sold by an Italian immigrant, Giuseppe Cervi, who mistakenly stepped off an America-bound ship at Cobh (then called Queenstown) in County Cork and walked all the way to Dublin.[18] He started by selling fish and chips outside Dublin pubs from a handcart. He then found a permanent spot in Great Brunswick Street (now Pearse Street). His wife Palma would ask customers "Uno di questa, uno di quella?" This phrase (meaning "one of this, one of the other") entered the vernacular in Dublin as "one and one", which is still a way of referring to fish and chips in the city.

    God bless lost Italians!

Many not on the list are doing it. Some do everything half price too.

Because its a genuine offer, unlike the junkmail pizza places where half price is the norm, and not particularly good value when compared to other takeaways.

this means that you don't get the frozen chips that they sell in soem take aways. freshly cut chips are the only way. also the fish is battered in store as oppose to them using the likes of donegal catch.

I am just saying do not look at that list, see your local chipper is not on it and then presume they are not doing the half price offer.

In my mind a chipper by definition does not have frozen chips or donegal catch. Most chippers are supposed to use frozen fish for their "fresh cod" though.

Burdocks is not on the list, nor are another 2 local ones to me who did the deal in previous years.

The Chinese near me will probably be looking forward to this. The queues for the chipper across the road from it are always down the street, so many people were just going to the Chinese instead, they probably had their mind set on getting a takeaway at that stage.

If you can't wait then get some today instead.

If there's one thing you'll be doing tomorrow, it's waiting.

Anyone know if much chippers do everything half price? I think my local did last year but I'm not 100% sure. I'd eat fish but their Chicken Tenders are more or less the greatest things I've ever eaten.
