I haven't broken my steel set yet. Thats saying something.

Try donedeal or adverts.ie before you commit €100. Be surprised what you'd get with that.

Definitely get the cast iron set, if you treat them right they will last you a long time.

The vinyl weights are total crap.

Also if you ever decide to sell you will get 60 or so of your money back by selling the cast iron set, the others would be pretty much worthless.

The main problem I found with Vinyl is the bulkyness to'em. They are ridiculously oversized, you'd think the cast iron set were midgets.

The concrete in the vinyl ones degrade over time. The bulk takes up precious space on your dumbbell handle, I have bog standard york ones and have made a dumbbell of just under 30kg, no way you fit that many vinyl ones on.

The 50kg barbell kits are usually better value per kilo (than dumbbell only sets). You will progress to higher weights quite fast at first, and can buy spare 5kg or 10kg plates.

Cast iron barbell kits usually come with solid bars, vinyl sets usually are hollow barbells, which will bend under any decent weight, the vinyl argos barbell does appear to be solid though.

    Check adverts.ie etc as mentioned.

€100 is a decent price. Amazon are £100STG and are often usually cheaper than argos.

The vinyl weights wont even all fit on the barbell - get the cast iron. You can buy a cheap bench that will fold away if room is limited.

Recently moved into an apartment and looking at getting a dumbell set just for doing some extra exercises at home. Not much room for any benches.

Regarding the two options in the link below, is it worth paying the extra?

Would anybody have any recommendations for something similar that is cheaper/better?

only used it for the bench press and pec fly so far and its sound. Folds flat and can be put back together in under a minute.

    Grand for starting out.
