One for me tomorrow in the shape of 7.05 Ascot Colonel Mak 12/1. I'd take the price on offer now as I'd be surprised if he didn't see a bit of market support.

Forum favourite Mubtadi goes for a 6 timer in the 7.25 Nottingham as well and I think he can extend his winning sequence.

PaddyPower traders definitely keeping an eye on you Rossom.

    Down to 15/2 already.

Not sure if I'll back it but Wakhan up at Downpatrick has been really disappointing in a couple of handicap hurdles last year and thought he should have been competitive off his mark. Ran in a few points and down the weights again and it looks a winnable race.

Of the rest think Magician could win at Chester he looked far too bad to be true and was really impressive when winning a really good maiden last year (runner up won since and was second to Vitzoria, third Alive Alive Oh could make the frame in the Oaks)

Only one I think I'll back at the present is Jillnextdoor at Chester, had some smart form last year beaten over 2 lengths by Rosdhu Queen in the Cheveley and has come down to a nice mark, being by Henrythenavigator she'll love the firmer ground and is drawn nicely in three at 16/1

Montaff hinted at a return to form last time out at Ripon and fared better than the result suggests in a better race than this I think. Dropped 2lbs and has each way claims at 12/1.

Think single figures is a terrible price for Colonel Mak even if he wins. B Fifty Two will win a nice handicap this season just might need another few lbs from the handicapper he's been slow to relent too much

the step up to 10f will definitely suit, and there's none of the opposition that look especially unexposed or ahead of the handicapper, so a big bet at 7/4

    .

    Took 9/1 on betfair. thanks.

Also Polar kite in the 3:50 at chester at just over 11/1 and Piccolo Mondo at 4/1 in the 4:50 at Lingfield.
I've been messing around with Hugh Taylors speed ratings and a bit of my own thoughts, trying to combine them together. Bit of a mixed bag at the moment.

yeah, the fact that a horse Vastly was 2nd to has since won off 82 makes him worth a small saver bet.

Parliament Square and Ghaamer in the first two at Cork look good to me, unless money comes for the O'Brien horse in the second.

Jillnextdoor. The ground looked to be cutting up as the day went on with the rain that fell. Not sure if it continued raining or really got into the ground so worth checking out if you think firm ground is really needed.

    7.05 Ascot

    Colonel Mak 12/1

The well handicapped Colonel Mak ran a very eye catching race on his 3rd start back from a break LTO and with Ryan Moore booked and getting dropped back to a Class 3 handicap for the first time since 2010 I think he's got great chance of resuming winning ways in this large field handicap. Now rated 90, Colonel Mak is now 8lb below the mark he won off at Doncaster last April impressively and a full stone below the mark he ran a blinder in 3rd behind Maarek at Newmarket last May and on that form he is clearly very well handicapped. This 6 year old started off this season very poorly with two under par runs but looked very close to being back to himself on his last start 18 days ago. At Pontefract over 6f, Graham Gibbons sent his mount to the front of the field from stall 7 where he set a pretty decent pace. At the 2f pole, Colonel Mak was travelling very well and looked like the winner at that stage but he was headed just outside the final furlong as Gibbons didn't get stuck into him as he allowed him to come home a 5L beaten 7th. It was a massive improvement on his first two runs of this season and that run looked like it would get him spot on for today which very much seems the case with the excellent Ryan Moore taking over in the saddle for the first time. From his draw in stall 11, I expect Moore to either sit just in behind the leaders or set off from the front as I presume the field will group somewhere near the middle of the track. David Barron has his horses in fine order at the moment and given that Colonel Mak is so well handicapped on last season's form and dropped into a Class 3 handicap for the first time in nearly 3 years I think Colonel Mak has a great chance of resuming winning ways if building on his last promising effort.

    1.55 Market Rasen

    Full Speed 5/1

Full Speed is another wonderful success story for the fantastic Phil Kirby and despite and 8lb rise for his victory last month I think he's definitely the one they all have to beat. This 8 year old is in absolutely terrific form at present winning 3 of his last 4 starts (twice on the flat) and I think he has a lot more to offer off his current mark of 115. Completely unexposed over hurdles with just 4 starts to date, Full Speed actually made his hurdling debut way back in 2009 for Alan Swinbank where he ran a fine 4th in a race won by the very talented Mare Alasi and for some reason or another he was confined to the flat before he joined current connections back in August of last year. After getting fit on the flat, he made his belated return to the National Hunt scene where he ran an absolute blinder given his absence from this discipline when beaten a little over a length by Dotties Dilemma back in October last year on bottomless ground. It was a great effort and after winning on the flat in the interim period he made his handicap debut again in unsuitably bottomless ground when comprehensively beaten by the incredibly well handicapped Coverholder (now rated 34lb higher) at Kelso back in February. After winning again on the flat, he made it 4th time lucky over hurdles at Newcastle last month off a mark of 107 when scoring convincingly over 2m last month. Settled in midfield, Full Speed didn't travel with the same fluency as he can on the flat but was still always going pretty well for Richie McGrath. Heading into the home straight tracking the eventual runner up All That Remains, Full Speed had to be vigorously driven and despite making a mistake at 2 out he eventual ground down his game opponent to win going away by nearly 4L with a gap back to the rest of the field. Full Speed very much shaped like he would be better over further that day and I think he'll really appreciate the step up to 2m3f in this contest. The form of that victory has already been strongly franked with the 2nd winning convincingly off the same mark on his only outing since and given that Full Speed was well in command in beating him I think the 8lb rise seems more than fair. Completely unexposed in this discipline, Full Speed only takes a slight step up in grade to a 0-115 contest where he'll have to shoulder top weight but that doesn't really concern me at all. In addition to appreciating the extra distance, I think he'll prefer the quick surface today and I think he'll take an awful lot of beating. Phil Kirby can do so little wrong at present and I'm confident that Full Speed can keep both his and the trainer's wonderful run going.

Phil Kirby also runs the very interesting Jawaab 6/1 in the race proceeding this who should love the quick ground, looks on a very winnable mark of 104 and who takes a huge step back in Class from a 0-135 to this 0-115 contest. Have also done him in a single and an each way double on the pair.

Went to the pub and everybody plus the cat were on Sizing Platinum great night but I lost my phone and was expecting word for Seanie today. He will go on the soft is well drawn and I expect a big run.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,404 ✭✭✭mr.jingle

Zafarqand 2-45 is a big price for obvious reasons. The fact O Brady trains it now suggests the horse had problems when with John Oxx and the reason they havent ran since the nose second to Olympiad in Gowran. I remember that race well and Olympiad was lucky to win that day as the two seemed to collide close home and Zafarqand travelled the better of the two. Worth a small e/w investment for you guys I think at a big price although has a lot to find with the market leaders. Up monaghan :-)

After much deliberating I've decided on two small bets.

Talab at Downpatrick. I always keep an eye out for Dessie Hughes gambles and this horse was well backed a couple of times last summer before being a non runner, and was a decent second over hurdles off 102 on good ground. Has hinted at coming good over fences last year when placed three consecutive times on decent ground. Ran a really good race two starts back, went over to Cheltenham and kept on well for a ten length third, racing off a mark of 108 over there. Didn't show much on his return from six months off but this isn't the strongest of races and he really wants quick ground and hopefully today is his day at 10/1

I'm committing the blasphemous act of opposing the money printing horse known as Mubtabi. At the bottom of the handicap Meetings Man has gotten very well handicapped and ran well last time out, 8/1

What do people think of the first at Cork ? the reason I ask is I had Bracing Breeze in my horse tracker and looks a tasty price .

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 786 ✭✭✭fangee

In the 3.15 at Chester LYRIC ACE stands out at a very nice 14/1.

Has run in a few races better than this and will handle the ground.

From a plum draw I hope they try and make all.

I think 5 furlongs is the optimum trip too.

3.05 Lingfield Ghostwing 7/1.How I missed 20/1 this morning I dont know.Top female rider Sarah Brotherton rides and this grey will try to make all.Did not stay last time out over 8f but back to 7f today he warrents interest. There are a lot of very poor riders in this race and I expect SB to ride them to sleep.

Anyone else fancy peptiite rose 3.30 market rasen.
Really like this horse and always runs a great 6/1 seems a nice price.

Captain Bertie gone from 9/1 to 5/2 fav in the 1.45, still fancy Gandalak

Not as competitive as it could be but 9/4 captain Bertie is a terrible price even if he wins

Went each way with this myself, runner up on his debut against a decent sort (who already had 2 runs under his belt) so should come on a good bit for that outing. Its a big ask for him to win it but no way is it a 40/1 shot more like 20/1.

Only bet for me is a reverse forecast on Vasoni and knights templar in 7:10 cork. Vasoni will appreciate the softer ground compared to Gowran earlier in the week but Knights Templar should come on for his comeback run and is also 11pounds better off than with Vasoni when they clashed at Roscommon last summer.

Jumped on him 5's, ridiculous price for a finish.

Sure they don't need to change it as is. No point in him coming over riding in Gowran maidens when there are three jockeys there who are well able.
