Do you have any interest in overclocking? If not, this cpu would be a good choice http://www.hardwareversand.de/Socketl+LGA1155+%28Xeon%29/74048/Intel+Xeon+E3-1230v2%2C+boxed%2C+LGA1155.article

It's almost exact same performance as the 3770 (4 cores/8 threads) The motherboard for it would also be cheaper.

This 7950 is the most popular one http://www.hardwareversand.de/3072+MB/55042/Gigabyte+Radeon+HD+7950%2C+3GB+GDDR5%2C+PCI-Express.article

    Other graphics cards to consider
http://www.hardwareversand.de/2048+MB/57152/PowerColor+PCS%2B+HD7870+Myst.+Edition+2GB+GDDR5%28UEFI+READY%29.article - exact same as the joker 7870 but cheaper. Is pretty close to the 7950 performance wise, might be a bit louder.

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/2048MB/64931/Gigabyte+GeForce+GTX+660Ti+OC%2C+2GB+GDDR5%2C+2x+DVI%2C+HDMI%2C+DisplayPort.article

    Blu ray drive - http://www.hardwareversand.de/S-ATA/71823/LG+BH16NS40+Blu-Ray+Brenner+Bulk.article

Regarding the monitor, it depends if you want 2560x1600 resolution or not. Personally I'd just get one of the LG 24EA53VQ

You could also remove the scythe gentle typhoons. They were there to replace the fans on the h100

    That's a 7870, not a 7870XT, it's a bit slower than the Joker.

    Cheers.

I'd be willing to try overclocking at some stage. Is the i7-3770 worth it?

I think I'll go with the Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950, 3GB GDDR5 and the LG 24EA53VQ. Is there free games available with that graphics card and if so, how do I go about getting them?

    Thanks again.

7870 myst is a 7870 XT, just different name. It's the exact same card with a different shroud on the cooler.

The 3770 isn't really worth it, since you want to overclock just keep the 3570k.

I emailed hardwareversand recently about the codes and they said they have none left for the 79XX cards. The banner for free games with 78XX cards is still up on the website though (tomb raider + bioshock infinite)

Also this case is a bit cheaper and very similar

Why don't you fill out the questions and we can do a build that suits you.

That other build was for video editing as well as gaming.

Plenty left over to get a good mechanical keyboard and mouse.

You could still go for the qnixx. Keep in mind that the higher resolution and possible 120hz is going to put a lot of extra strain on the graphics. You will not get over 60fps in the majority of games. 60 fps is about the average for most decent looking games at 1080p with a setup like that.

If you want to go dual gpu at some stage get the asrock extreme 3 board and a 700w+ psu and switch to an Nvidia card.

And just one last question. Is there much difference between the graphics card you mentioned and this one which is a small bit more expensive.

Not really. It's slightly higher stock speed but you will be overclocking anyway.

The gigabyte cooler might be a bit better but it's also louder.

I'm ordering this tomorrow (with this instead of the above blu ray drive). Anybody else have any final recommendations? Don't mind spending an extra bit on something if the upgrade is significant.

I'd go with the Deep Silence One. It's more expensive, but it's a better case, and it gives you a lot of options cooling-wise down the road too.

It's the one I was going to go for anyway as they don't have the other one in stock and don't know when they'll have it in next!

Anything else missing or do I have everything else in the above list for the comp to run perfectly?

Also how difficult/how much time does it take to build the above PC for a novice or am I better f getting hardwareversand to build it.

    Thanks again.

On the building front, it's not too hard. There's step by steps around the place that you should familiarise yourself with:

There's a few bits that can be slightly tricky but mostly you just need to be careful and patient.

Discharge yourself often - touching a radiator or a nearby metal appliance that's plugged in should do the trick.

Don't ever fiddle with the computer while it's turned on. I dropped a screw onto my motherboard once and it started arcing and nearly caught fire. Astonishingly no damage was done. Lesson learned.:o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

Cheers, is there also any alternative motherboard that's just as good if not better (I don't mind paying a bit extra) to this one as it's out of stock until the 15th.

The extreme 3 I guess. It's pretty much the same with better support for dual gpu configs although you would needa better psu if considering this.

It has better power delivery to the processor as well although that's unlikely to make much difference with those chips unless you're doign extreme overclocking.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

I presume this is the motherboard you are talking about

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/DDR3/67918/ASRock+Z77+Extreme3%2C+Sockel+1155%2C+ATX.article

Which psu would you recommend to go with it?

    Thanks again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Something like this would do you with plenty of room to spare for a tonne of overclocking. That's if you're going with a second GPU though. If it's just the one, what you've got will be plenty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

This is only if you would actually go to dual gpu but if you want a psu for around the same price with the power for 2 cards then this will do nicely.

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/600+-+700+Watts/74175/be+quiet%21+SYSTEM+POWER+7+700W.article

I'd probably change to an nvidia card then as well since crossfire has serious latency issues. They might be fixed with drivers soon but last time I checked they are still cack.

    A 660ti or 670gtx if going Nvidia.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

Ah right, yeah I don't think I'll have any interest in using dual gpus. Maybe in the distant future.

Will the extreme 3 run 1 gpu fine, or will it use up unnecessary power or anything? (sorry I'm a total novice)

Are you only recommending Nvidia if I was going with a second gpu or were you recommending it in general?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

The extreme 3 will be fine with 1 gpu.

    No I'm not.

Basically amd outperforms Nvidia at every price point but has latency issues with crossfire.

For single gpu setups I recommend Amd, for multi I recommend Nvidia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Actually that's not quite true. If you compare the 660 Ti and the 7950, they're actually identical in price/performance if you take the newest drivers into account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Comparing what? I look at benchmarks that show both overclocked to their max levels. Not ones comparing different stock speed models.

The 7950 has always been a far better option than the 660ti. It's more in line with a 670gtx.

So would it be better for me to get the 660 Ti for the simple reason if I wanted to add a second gpu down the line?

If so, which 660 Ti would you recommend? There are loads of them there.

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/articlesearch.jsp

As said before, I don't mind paying extra if the performance is significantly upgraded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

If going for a 660ti the asus model is always a good choice. It's one of the quietest and best coolers.

Seems to have a free copy of Assassins creed 3 as well.

It's a 2tb drive. There's 2tb drives on hwvs for around the same money.

From my experiance multi GPU setups only makes sense at the high end where you can't get a single card to do the work that you need.

In most cases it's best to stick to single card. I would recommend getting the best single card you can now. Then if you want more performance at a later date sell that card and put the money towards a better single card.

    Ordered this just there.

How long does it take for hardwareversand to send a confirmation email?

I signed up for the guarantee (trusted shops) for an extra couple of euros, and they're the only ones who have sent an email so far.

    They give me this info:

    Date: 11/05/2013
    Order Number: xxxxxxxxxx
    Subtotal: xxxxx EUR
    ID: xxxxxxx
    E-mail: xxxxxxxxx
    Online Store: hardwareversand.de Garantienr: xxxxxxxxxx
    KD-feedback no later than: 17/06/2013
    cover up to: 1500.00 EUR
    Status: Warranty active
    message: no

Am I meant to use this info for the bank transfer or will hardwareversand send an email in due course?

i also got the trusted shops email first..they are both automated responses anyway..so dont worry

Is there any links in the trusted shop one that maybe confirm the order or something?

    My stuff has been dispatched.

Do I need a wireless adapter to connect to the internet or is it already on the motherboard or something?

I can't put the PC directly beside my internet source so that rules out an ethernet cable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,294 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

If all your stuff doesn't arrive together don't freak out. I got a box with the monitor and case first and then another box with everything else the next day. They should give you a different tracking number for each box.

Yeah, you will need a seperate wireless adapter, that motherboard doesn't come with one(most don't).

    They're pretty cheap:

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/PCI/42568/LogiLink+Wireless+LAN+300+Mbps+PCI+Karte+802.11n+2T2R.article

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/PCI-Express/30773/TP-Link+TL-WN781N%2C+150Mbps%2C+PCIe+x1.article

    etc.

It's also worth mentioning that most people around here suggest using homeplugs rather than wifi as it gives much better speeds.

As I've never used them myself I can't really recommend any particular model but I can't imagine there's too much between the different brands.

PC world, Maplin etc. will have one in stock but I have no idea what the price will be like as I tend to steer clear of them. I wouldn't be too optimistic though, they can be pretty wild with their pricing. Last time I was in PC World they were looking for €300 for a 7750.

Are you f*cking kidding me? Lol. If I saw that I would show them the pricing on Amazon, HWVS, dabs, pixmania, everywhere and make it fix there and then. That's effing criminal.

I tried pointing out to them that this was about 3 times what you would pay for it on pixmania, who own PC World, and the only response I got was a blank stare and a promise to "look into it".

My mistake, it was actually a 7770, and it was €270. There is also a disparity between their in-store prices and their website prices.

    http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2056724508/1#post80189551

    There's the thread I made about it mr.cynical ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭indough

their most expensive ghz edition 7770 is only 170, so not too bad for b&m. the disparity if any is not going to be a hundred quid anyway. the last times ive been in there most stuff was reasonably priced with the odd exception. obviously there is always some premium to pay for convenience, seemed about 15 percent or thereabouts which is far from the worst. iwouldnt even entertain maplins with a glance however

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,047 ✭✭✭Bazzo

Obviously my experience was an extreme example, I was only using it to demonstrate how crazy their pricing can be. The point is that it does happen though.

In any case this is all horribly off topic. Let us know how you get on with your build OP.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

It's always worth keeping an eye on PC World. I got 2 Sapphire 7770's for 160 all in there a month ago, they had old SKU 7770's on clearance. Running them in Crossfire is faster than a 7950, so it was serious value. At the moment, they have OK value on GTX650Ti's and similar budget cards for OK bricks and mortar prices. Seem to have gotten out of the performance line though, probably weren't selling enough cards. I'll never forget years ago, asking the price of an 8800Ultra, at a time when they were about 500 from online retailers.....just short of 1K in PC World. :o
