    hi all ,
recently I carried out skin testing and it showed i was allergic to sodium metabisulfite. I have a red line around my lips and it can worsen from time to time. can anyone help me on this or has had this condition?

what foods or drinks can worsen the allergy?

Its a common additive to wines, you might see "contains sulphites" on the bottle.

Not being funny, but the people who carried out the testing should give you this information.

You will have to start reading packets carefully, it is now required to be listed if its above a certain level. Some foods might not have listings at all though.

When and how should sulphites be declared on a food label?

Sulphur dioxide and sulphites must appear on the label under their chemical names e.g. sodium metabisulphite, where present at levels exceeding 10mg/kg or 10mg/l, expressed as SO2. Labelling the category and the additive number is not sufficient. Therefore, it is not enough to label as preservative: E223.

I do read the small print on labels a lot and have noticed it coming up a fair bit.

FYI - it's commonly used as a preservative for Dublin Bay prawns / langoustines...

I used to have this all the time, a lysine supplement sorted it out. Who carried out your testing? Did you get any information from them regarding foods to avoid ect?
