So it seams that a lot of chronic back pain cases are actually the result of bacterial infection.

Apparently it's been known for a while that bacterial infection is a possible cause of chronic pain, but it was thought that this was rare. Some guys in Denmark did a long term study where they found that it's actually really common. They then went on to show that they could cure chronic back pain using antibiotics.

If this all works out it should help a lot of people. Surgery isn't all that effective, carries a lot of risks, and costs a fortune. If a course of antibiotics could fix the problem that would obviously be a better solution.
