Hi i'm currently a student in 6th year living in Cork and I'm trying to decided where to go to College. I've been living in Cork for the last 17 years and have Business Information Sytems down as my 1st choice in UCC, but I really want to do a similar course in a Dublin University. Is there any current students that are currently studying in Dublin that could recommend whether to go Dublin or Stay in Cork? I just really want a new experience and many people have told me Dublin is streets ahead of Cork in terms of Social Life and student experience! Would really appreciate any feedback..cheers!! smile.png

My roommate chose TCD over UCC for the same reasons. She's from Cork and has no regrets. It's a fairly handy train journey, so not really that far.
I can't really compare both, but Dublin is probably a bit more lively, the few times I've been to Cork I've found nights out can be hit and miss. Student experience is really what you make of it. If you treat it like a 9 to 5, your going to lose interest very fast, so wherever you end up, get involved in clubs/ societies. There's a huge range available in all the universities.

Move to Dublin. It's more costly, so you'll have to plan around that, but MOVE! Best decision I've ever made.

Miller_Stew, I'm from Cork and chose to study in Dublin even though UCC offered my course, feel free to PM me any questions :)

I moved from Cork to do an arts degree in Trinity, best decision I ever made!

As someone who went to TCD and lived at home with my parents in Dublin, my biggest regret was not taking that offer in NUIG. Living at home with your parents is absolutely awful. It will be more expensive and you may have to work nights/weekends if your unlucky but you will learn so much more being out on your own.

I reckon moving up from Cork was the best choice I've ever made - apart from the fact that I really like the college, Dublin can be a great city to live in, and I've never had the issue of having nothing to do on a night, which is an occasional complaint from my friends back in UCC. Also I feel that going out on my own was a good move for me - had I stayed in Cork I would probably not have gotten as involved in college life as I already had a circle of friends there, whereas here I had to get out there and reaped the benefits of doing so. And of course, the independence is GREAT.

I'm also from Cork, though far away enough from the city that I would have had to get accommodation there. So I was going to have the costs of living away from my family either way, though rent and such is more expensive in Dublin. That said, I never really considered going to UCC, I had my eye on Trinity from the start and I really, really love it here. I love living in Dublin too. I stayed in halls (Trinity Hall - out in Rathmines) last year which was a great experience and I made so many friends from living there. Living in town this year and that certainly has its benefits too. Everything is on my doorstep really.
