So I got myself a new motor!

Well the missus isn't bothered in the slightest, so I thought I might share my excitement here, amongst fellow petrolheads!

Got myself an '07 BMW 325i M Sport, really happy with it. Lovely creamy straight six, such a delight after a dirty, rattly diesel!

It's pretty much showroom condition, one owner and really low mileage.

Had it up the Dublin mountains, handles really well. Ride is very firm at low speed over bad surfaces, but the benefit is the normal-high speed composure and handling on windy roads.

Have it about two weeks, averaging 23mpg so far. All city driving, a mix of normal and more enthusiastic driving ;) Looking forward to getting it out on a good long spin West. Overall though, feck fuel economy!

Will post a few pics later if anyone is interested!

    That made me laugh!

We'll wear with the new car, be sure and post some pictures. A well specced E90 or E92 is a stunning car.

Congrats on the purchase, like said above the e90/e92 is a great looking car. I'd love to get those mpg figures in my e30 325 :(

Yep, of course I am. Very few come on here having bought a 2.5 (or is it a 3.0?). Many ask, but not many have bought

    23mpg, straight 6 ---> Win.

Funnily enough, I have put the bike into hibernation for the winter. Have gone from 75+ mpg to 18 - 20 mpg. Its a bitter pill :D

    best of luck.

No, not this time. Am I right in saying its unusual for such a car to be purchased in this day and age?

Well wear. Given you've had it in the Dublin mountains, did you get it from Lewis Motors in Cabinteeley? They had an 07 e90 325i that looked very clean in the pictures up until the last week or two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,525 ✭✭✭ION08

    Well wear.

E92 m-sports are very nice looking machines

    Is it a 3 litre or a 2.5??

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

The I6 BMW engines are so smooth, it's a pleasure just to listen to them. Well wear :)

Miss my 6 and 8 cylinder BMWs. It's been nearly 2 years since I owned one :(

    Yeah thats the one.

Lewis Motors were very good to deal with, I'd recommend them.

It's a 2.5 not the newer 3.0. Afaik the newer 3.0 is quite a bit more economical but also less reliable.

Ok, well I'll go take some pics now then before I get banned from my own thread!

My brother bought an RX8 off them about two years ago and says the same. I had been looking at that one online for a bit and was disappointed to see it had gone. Looked lovely. Do you mind me asking the price you paid?

Looking forward to the pics :)

    Some pics from this morning.....!

I bought the BMW Performance Darkline rear lights and changed them on...think it looks much better than the standard lights. Not in a boy racer way or anything, but just looks more aggressive?!

Looks great, for some reason i just assumed it would be an e92

Anyway, the darkline lights are a great addition and tastefully set the car off. The standard clusters are very dull and outdated looking imo

Id be a lot happier with the "older" 2.5 engine as opposed to the 3.0 325i. If it was the 3.0 liter version id feel a bit jiffed paying 3 litre tax for a 325 instead of an actual 330! (Or even a 335 in that case :-P )

Very cool car, best of luck with it

    Yeah thats me, :p

I'm only 28 so a bit off a Jag yet I reckon! Maybe when they bring out the 3-series rival, or a second hand F-type....

Well wear op, makes me wish I'd held out for an m sport when I was buying my e90.. Love the contrasting interior. Mine is beige beige beige, the black door handles etc really looks much better.

No, I think its an N52. 218bhp. Not that much torque low down, it really wants you to open it up. Above about 4,000 is where it starts to come into its own!

    Terrific-looking motor!

Congratulations on it and may you enjoy it very much.
Hopefully you will have plenty of security built-in, as undesirables will be drawn to it (as I'm sure you'll be aware anyway) Just make sure to make it as difficult as possible to nick...

    E34 530 V8
    E38 735 V8
    E39 520 I6

Now the family car is a bangernomics Saab 9-5 turbo. Nothing wrong with it, but it ain't no BMW :(

Why not let the saab go and get what you want. Motoring costs are a crapshoot anyway you look at it. Theres folks out there in brand new humdrum skodas, vws, and nissans that cost 25k-30k and the costs per annum are anything from 6-10k a year. Im sure you could run a V8 Bmw on average miles(esp if LPG if needed)for quite a bit less. The only way anyone can get truely cheap motoring is buying a pre 2002 petrol supermini like a Yaris, I think I worked out the possible costs as less than 2.5k a year all in! Having said that who would want to drive one is another matter.

Op that BM is a stunner inside and out, enjoy it!

Sure stick an lpg kit in it and your good to go:cool: Wouldnt touch a post 03 M5 , too unreliable for my liking.

Only reason I let my 735 go was the tax. If motor tax was abolished and put on fuel I would have gladly kept it and probably bought something else too for cq. €1800 that would be the price of a years tax!

The 9-5 is a lot of things. Cheap, big, comfy, safe, well built, well specced, decent (mid range) performance for a 2l car. Did I mention it was very cheap? :)

A drivers car it isn't though...

And the E39 is the best driving saloon of its generation. A car so accomplished, it left all competition for dead back in the 90s. Even more so than the E34 had done in the 80s. This is true even for the base model I owned, a 2l 520i manual. Only 150BHP (that's about half of what I really want in a car :)), but if you keep the revs up the car handles and performs remarkably well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

01-03 Facelift 520 Sports are asking 2-3k at the moment. I know the 2.2 burns a bit of oil but that's still small beans for a damn smart car. Puts out similar power to the pre-facelift 523 too!

Cheers, I love my 9-5, but an e39 is an itch I have always wanted to scratch. Even more so a 525/530i. Maybe next bangernomics.
