Archbishop Martin calls for tds to have a free vote on the abortion bill because it is "a matter of conscience".

Following his logic through, should he not be advocating a referendum to have on-demand abortion, so that, being "a matter of conscience", individuals can decide freely whether they want to have an abortion or not?

Is there good logic in his position without this follow-on, or, is his statement cynically illogical in order to try to achieve the outcome he wants ?
Or even, has the church changed its tune, and is moving towards advocating pro-choice ?

"I am proud to stand here as a public representative, as a taoiseach who happens to be a Catholic but not a Catholic taoiseach"

"My job as taoiseach is to lead the government in governing for the people of the country. That is not confined to any sector of the people, it is for all of the people"

Fair f&cks to you Enda Kenny for saying that, well done.

So nothing has actually changed for the women of this country in regard to abortion. If you have an abortion you could face 14 years in prison. Absolute bloody disgrace. This kind of nonsensical punishment of women who choose to take control of their own bodies is ridiculous and just goes to show what a backwards little catholic country we are.

Any woman wanting an abortion is still going to be forced to go abroad. I think that the abortion argument is very simple, if you want an abortion you have an abortion, if you don't want an abortion you don't have one. This is another example of what an unhealthy relationship there is between church and state.

So any woman who now buys abortion pills online and uses them (not the morning after pill, abortion pill) now faces 14 years in prison.
Well aren't we just the modern and equal society!
