How long after an interview should you hear something back?

    Hi guys

Had an interview for Airtricity last Thursday, it was a full on 6 hour assessment day and interview, came out of it thinking I completely nailed it but I have yet to hear anything back.

The interview was 7 days ago, and if successful they said I would be starting Tuesday 7th May next week.

Should I be worried I havent heard anything yet or should I heard something tomorrow before the long weekend?

    Cheers

it doesn't look good does it, had an interview myself 2 weeks ago which I also felt went very well and realised after a week that wasn't going to get the call

    their loss!!

    For Airtricity?

I got a really good vibe though, and I thought with them being such a big company, the least I would have got was a reply to how it went :(

Can take a day, few days/week or a few weeks to a month or longer to hear back.

Hopefully tomorrow if the start date is Tuesday.

Would be really unprofessional of such a big company to not give any reply

They would surely get back to you by tomorrow if start date is tuesday.

If there are a lot of applicants they may or may not get back to you with feedback/answer as to how you got on.

You can never be too sure. You could do really well in an interview still doesn't mean you get called back...

Airtricity should be professional enough company to send you feedback at least.
If you don't hear back from them tomorrow email/ring for feedback as to how you got on in the interview. Its good to know for future interviews.

I know two people that have worked for them and I have experience with them as a company for myself and my parents.

    Ahhh ok

So you wouldn't expect them to get back to me tomorrow?

I rang on Wednesday about a job I interviewed for Monday of last week. They had said we'd hear by the end of the week, so I decided to go for it. The person I was talking to (HR person who interviewed me) needed reminding of what job it was, and then vaguely said "No, I don't think that job has been filled yet" and said she'd get back to me the next day with an update. Errr, ok? Ye're really on top of things there. No update the next day. I've emailed today, just so I can put it to bed, as I'm obviously not expecting I got the job or anything. The job is still being renewed on job sites daily. Just really unprofessional behaviour, and really poor form not to get back to people who have taken the time to prepare and travel to the interview.

    Is this for Airtricity?

Nope, just adding to the conversation! :)

Ahhh ok, thanks for your input :)

What annoys me most is I've put all my eggs in one basket as I thought I had this job nailed down, and knocked back over 10 interviews for other jobs this week alone so now I'm feeling super p*ssed off.

If they don't call by 1 I'll ring them at 2 and ask what the hell they're playing at

With the economy the way it is, most companies don't bother calling back unsuccessful applicants. I was uemployed last year for 5 months, it was soul destroying. I went to 7 interviews, I got two job offers. The only two companies that bothered to ring me back, were the 2 companies that offered me a position.

The first job I got offered, they rang me back two weeks later.

The second job (current job), they rang me the next day.

Depends I guess. From my experience, I wouldn't hold my breath on getting an offer and just keep applying for other jobs in the meantime. The second job I got offered which I took was better pay, better company, better working hours than the first. So even if you get a job, I would still keep going to interviews if a better job interview comes along!

    Just my 2 cents.

Being rude to potential employers...that's a paddlin'

Refusing all other interviews... you better believe that's a paddlin'.

Bad move on my part, I know :(

I think most companies don't inform unsuccessful candidates.
I'm not saying that's the case here. Sometimes they can take weeks to get around to giving people the good news.

Go to every interview anyway. The worst that can happen is that you have to turn down extra job offers. Don't ever rely on one job interview, because even if you think you did well you can be overlooked for an internal applicant, an employee friend, or someone else.

It's ****ty that they haven't got back to you, but it seems to be the norm for companies to drag out the process. I have to say, most companies will get back to you in a timely manner. But the odd time, companies can be very unprofessional.

I've had a (what I thought was) a very successful interview with a small company for a office admin position, and they never replied to me. Like, not even an automated rejection email. I was waiting on word from them when I saw a blog update on their website congratulating the new recruit!

So take interviews. If you're getting that many interviews, you must be quite a strong candidate for the roles you're applying for. Don't hold out for one job.

    You've turned down interviews?

Even when I think an interview went well, I still go out afterwards and find other jobs to apply for, and arrange other interviews. I have one later today and another one next Tuesday.

Even if you do well in an interview, someone else might do even better!

    I emailed their HR department.

Got an out of office reply saying 'HR is out of us from Wednesday 1st May until Tuesday 7th May'

What a bunch of unprofessional jokers

Here in lies your problems. People go on holidays, nothing unprofessional about that. However if looking for a job and you turn down interviews without a job secured is extremely unprofessional and very damaging to your hunt.

A company got back to me 6 months after an interview to offer me a job. Another company kept contacting me for interviews after I had already done 3 with them and told them not to contact me anymore.

If you are looking for a job you just have to deal with how the company deals with people. Mistake happen and a lot of people are involved so things can be a bit messed up.

Thankfully 2 of the interviews I didn't attend have invited me to interviews again today so I'm not gonna let these opportunities go a begging :)

Still nothing. Emailed their HR department last week and they still haven't replied to my mail

You never hear when you are supposed to, I interviewed for a job on Friday and they said 'we will speak to you on Tuesday, as the job needs to be filled ASAP', still nothing but there you go they are probably really busy. If I am still sitting here waiting on Friday, I will chase them up but everyone is so busy these days it can take ages for decisions like these to be made.

Good luck bud, you're certainly doing better than me. I can't even get an interview.

Sadly, I'd say let it go. Focus on the upcoming interviews, and just forget about it!

Like others have said, I'd be inclined to not put my eggs in one basket and keep looking - you may find/get something even better.

As someone who has interviewed and expanded my team though I can tell you that if it's a big company there'll often be layers of approvals to go through before someone is taken on.

While I know from first-hand experience (as both potential employee, and the guy who wants the spot filled) how frustrating that is, it's not malicious by any means. Often decision makers will be hard to reach due to meetings, may be travelling, or on holiday. The Finance team may want internal justifications before they approve and so on.

By all means follow-up, but try and be patient as well - but keep your eye out in the meantime.

I'd second the thoughts outlined already; you should definitely continue your jobsearch. No sense in banking everything on this one to come through.

But you should'nt give up on it completely either. I've had a delay of almost two weeks between 1st interview and the call for the 2nd interview in the past.
If its a large organization (with many "sign-offs" required on the candidates for the next round), it can take some time. It's also possible you were one of the first candidates interviewed - in which case there could well be a bit of a time-gap until the call for 2nd interview goes out.
