Not sure there is a specific thread for this fight. Maybe this thread can be. I don't know about you guys but I am so looking forward to this fight. Haven't been up for a fight as much in quite some time. I think Floyd will win, but I have a feeling that this will be a hard fought and scrappy affair.

The year lay off, prison, and Floyd naturally degrading with age could see the younger and fresher Guerrero having success. Is stamina going to be a key here. Will Guerrero force an educated and clever pace whilst not being reckless? Forcing Floyd to work harder than ever. Not just forcing Floyd to throw, but forcing him to move, push, pull and regroup for 12 rds.

I think we're in for a helluva stylistic match here. If Floyd destroys Guerrerro I would be a wee bit surprised, but not in shock. If Guerrero causes major problems I would not be surprised. I guess any result will not suprise me even though I feel that Floyd will win.

I think after a couple of feeling out rounds with Guerrero throwing a lot but not landing much Floyd takes over the fight and wins a comfortable decision. Guerrero started like a house on fire against Berto, knocked him down twice and closed his eyes but after that Berto, even with his eyes nearly closed, couldn't miss with the straight right and Guerrero's face was pretty beat up at the end. Now Berto is several leagues below Floyd and if he can land that many right hands, Floyd will feast on Guerrero. Look for Floyd to start beating Guerrero to the punch from the mid rounds on and taking the fight out of him. I think Floyd could stop him if he fancied but knowing him he'll be happy with a points win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

I haven't seen anything too special in Guerrero. He toughed it out against Berto in the last fight but he was wide open for hooks and uppercuts all night. Berto just didn't have the nous to tie him up and bring the fight back to the middle of the ring.

There was talk coming out of the Mayweather camp that Floyd had been really boiling down in weight for this one, that there had been more of a focus on stamina than there had been for some time, and that the return of Floyd Sr was in part down to the concerns about Floyd slowing down.

The Cotto fight shook Floyd up, there's no question about it. And I imagine the entire gameplan this time out is about avoiding the pattern in the first 8 rounds of the Cotto fight were Cotto was cutting off the ring and forcing Floyd to the ropes. Obviously the sight of Guerrero brutalising Berto on the inside makes this even more important. Personally I think Floyd wants to make a statement, I think he wants to show that he still has his legs and he can be as elusive as ever.

But even if he isn't, he's so much smarter and more skilled on the inside than a guy like Berto that it's very hard to see Guerrero doing anything like the sort of damage in close that he did against Berto. And he's going to take so many shots trying to work his way in that he could end up looking battered very early.

Maybe it won't go like that. Guerrero is a solid boxer and he might fancy his chances of applying pressure in a more conservative fashion. Hard to see him winning if he fights like that though. Chances are he'll just look to give Mayweather hell and see how it goes, see if he can bully him too. Maybe Floyd doesn't have the physical strength to keep a guy off anymore, and there's no doubting Robert Guerrero's strength.

I expect to see a Mayweather stoppage. If Guerrero makes it really competitive then I think it'll say a lot about where Floyd is at these days.

Robert Byrd could play a big role on the night. If he doesn't let Guerrero work on the inside the fight will be as good as over.

Just from looking at the All Access episodes it looks like Mayweather is in sublime shape . In fact i've never seen him with as much lean muscle since possibly the De Le Hoya fight . I think he wants to put on a show after his stint in prison . I think this fight could be exactly like the Hatton one . Competitive for the early rounds but from round 6 on Mayweather takes over . It could also end the same way too .

Las Vegas time I'd say 2130-2200 hrs which means close to 0530 hrs on Sunday morning for Ireland. Maybe even a little later.

I have watched all 3 episodes. Same old same old. A bit better than 24/7 I think. Episode 4 should be on tomorrow at some stage.

    Guerrero 147

My money is on Mayweather by ko between 7-9. He's better everywhere and Guerrero fades as the fight goes on. Should be an easy night for Floyd, unless he's suddenly hampered by age.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Big problems shifting tickets it seems. Going for way below face value. Dan Rafael tweeted that there was a huge effort being made to push them at the weigh-in.

Will be interesting to see how it does in PPV sales. Anything less than one million would be a bit of a disaster. It's the kind of fight I hope tanks though. PPVs should be for great match-ups, fights people are calling for. Not bouts like Mayweather-Guerrero that absolutely no one was looking for.

What prices would you be looking at for tickets for a big fight like this in the MGM grand?

Was in Vegas for the Mayweather v Mosley fight and tickets could just not be had anywhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭Brad Goodman

I had a look on the American ticketmaster out of curiosity and the prices of the tickets left were from around $300 up to $1500.

I reckon Floyd is gonna put extra punishment on Robert after his father's little escapade.
Gonna be a hot night for Guerrero.
The King of boxing is going to put a serious beating on Robert.

what's guerrero's chin like, anyone see this going to a tko in the later rounds???

I was at Hatton Pac Man, I paid $300 for moderately good seats. However Hatton and Pac Man tickets are harder to get than tickets for Mayweather fights due to a travelling fan base desperate to get into the fights. For 90% of fights in Vegas, the fights don't sell out and you can get them from face value. For big fights like this prices will range from $100 to $2000. I was at Lara Martirosyan last year and got tickets on the day for less than half as they were looking to fill out the crowd.

I don't think this is a terrible match up and is possibly the best one for Mayweather at 147? Who else could he fight in the weight class? Bradley, no thanks, JMM again? Pac Man, I would rather not see that now. I like RG, he is game, will be about the same size as FM, is a southpaw, is quick, good on the inside and can hit (I amn't sure if his is a big puncher at 147, although he did have Berto down). I think he is a tougher proposition than Cotto was in a similar style fight.

The fights I would like to see Mayweather in are at 154 but I amn't sure we see him back there after struggles against Cotto. The fights I would love to see are Canelo and Martinez at 154.

As for this fight I see Floyd winning 8-4 or so after a reasonably even first few rounds. Im not sure anyone goes down.

wonder how many PPV buys this will get?
    id say only 600k

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,758 ✭✭✭Strongbow10

Theres a good argument to be made that Floyd does massive PPV numbers based on his opponent also. Cotto, Marquez, Hatton, De La Hoya all have significant fanbases.

Guerrero does not have a particularly big following so that will not be there to draw from this time.

Still reckon PPV's should hit 750k though in numbers

What's the story with boxnation? Subscribe for a month only? Anyone know how much it is?

As for the fight, I like Guerrero, but think he's not near Floyd's level. I'd love to be wrong, but I think Floyd wins relatively comfortable. Hopefully Guerrero can make it difficult for at least a few rounds.

Lose the gum, Mayweather. It's disgusting. Oh, and Ruben, lose the shades, you numpty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

The entire build-up has been pretty tame. If it wasn't for Ruben Guerrero there would have been no drama at all.

The pre-fight documentaries are painfully boring at this stage. They've been done way too often. Five documentary series on someone like Mayweather who has absolutely nothing to say is overkill. The same is true of Pacquiao. Some people are saying it's because of All Access, but it's the same production team as 24/7. It's the format that's completely stale. You just get the exact same thing every time.

The Fight Camp 360 shows used to have much more of a 'fly on the wall' documentary style which made for more interesting shows, but since your man from HBO moved to Showtime we get the same overly produced 24/7 style there too.

The problem is the shows are not actually 'all access' or behind the scenes at all. They're heavily orchestrated, formulaic 'reality' shows with a dull, entirely predictable narrative imposed on top of the same footage they get for every fight. The fighters with their family, the B side visits a school, Mayweather buys something, Pacquiao meets someone famous. The exact same sh*t every time.

It would be great if some of these PPVs did tank as it might prompt a bit of a reaction from the networks. Might stop them serving up the same old slop and calling it something special.

Hey Guys I don't have sky and was hoping to stream by using boxnation's livesports online system. Turns out it's not available in the republic. Is there anywhere I'll be guaranteed a good stream??

Wouldn't it be ironic if the PPV and gate sales were dire for this, and Mayweather lost, just imagine.

    Not going to happen though.

I think it'll be on around 4. 30 am, not a hundred percent certain though.

As for the fight, you all may doubt this but I really think Guerrero has a serious shot. That's who my money is on anyway.

Having seen how ripped Floyd is and the fact he weighed in at 146, it has swayed me into thinking we could well see a master class from Floyd.

I was expecting a tough figh due to his age, we'll see.

Come up out of the fog. Mayweather IS boxing. The sport was dead until he kickedstarted it in 2007. There is no other fighter that gets people to tune in like he does. The haters want to see him beaten. The true fans of boxing appreciate the defence, appreciate the godlike talent he possesses. He is an once in a lifetime fighter. You will be lucky to see someone as technically proficient as him for the rest of your life.

I don't think Mayweather will lose tonight, only two men in boxing have a chance of beating him, Alvarez and Pacquiao. Stands to think if he does win tonight seeing the bs with Mayweather and Pacman beating Alvarez could let him retire with the glory he seeks. Tonight will go the distance with a majority points decision to Mayweather.
