Use MSN but keep it hidden

I want to be able to use MSN messenger on my work PC. I can install it but I'd like to keep the extent of my use to a minimum. Is there a way to hide it from the task bar and only access it when I need to? I know I can hide notifications but what about the task bar? I don't want to hide the entire task bar.

You could maybe use something like a portable version of pidgin which can be run from a usb pen drive: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/pidgin_portable

MSN is dead, Skype is its replacement. As far as I know you can minimise Skype to the notifications bar where it can be hidden.
